Blessings and greetings,

I have duly received your letter, and I am surprised by these long interruptions in the transmission of news concerning you.

The period of beginnings has no doubt passed. Indeed, "all beginnings are difficult," but from now on, you will expand your activities more and more, in accordance with the needs of the moment, which are increasingly great. And nothing can stand in the way of the will.

Based on the impression one has from here, one of the most important points is to maintain a permanent and increasingly sustained relationship with the mothers of the students of the schools — in particular the Chabad* schools — in order to encourage and support them, so that the atmosphere of the home may be an extension of that of the school and not, Heaven forbid, opposed to it. In this way, the education of these children will be most effective.

Obviously, it is not sufficient to help these mothers materially, even though this is very important and perfectly appropriate. One must also meet with them from time to time in order to explain to them the importance of an education dispensed in the spirit of our Torah*, the Torah of life, to elicit their questions, and to lead them to report the problems they face. In this way, these problems can be resolved in the best manner, and various obstacles and difficulties in the daily life of the students and their parents will disappear.

All this is timely on the occasion of the approaching start of the school year. Moreover, Elul*, the month of mercy, will begin these days. Then, the heart of every Jewish man and woman awakens the essence of oneself, which always remains faithful to Hashem. And the sweet singer of Israel expresses his wish and desire in these terms: "One thing I ask of Hashem, this is the request I make: I wish to dwell in the house of Hashem."

בודאי עבר כבר תקופת ההתחלה, אשר כל התחלות קשות, וירחיבו פעולותיהן ביותר וביותר, וכפי דרישת השעה, אשר גם דרישה זו הולכת וגדולה. ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון. ואחת הנקודות העיקריות כפי הנראה מכאן - היא העמידה בקישור מתמיד ומתגדל עם האמהות דהתלמידים ותלמידות בתי ספר, ובפרט דבתי ספר החבדי"ם, בכדי לחזקן ולעודד את רוחן, ושהאוירה בבית תהי' מעין המשך להאוירה בבית הספר, ולא ח"ו בנגוד לרוח זה - המפריע בחינוך של תלמידים-ות באופן הכי יעיל, ומובן אשר אין די ומספיק לזה העזר הניתן להן בגשם, אף שחשוב ונכון הוא במאד, ומוכרחות גם פגישות עמהן מזמן לזמן בכדי לבאר להן גודל ערך חינוך ברוח תורתנו תורת חיים, ולעוררן לשאלות ולגילוי הבעיות המעיקות על לבן, שאז ניתנה האפשריות לפותרן באופן הרצוי ולהסיר על ידי זה כמה מניעות וקישויים בחיי התלמיד-תלמידה ובחיי ההורים.

ובקשר עם זמן הלימוד הממשמש ובא, הנה מובן שזוהי עבודה שהזמן גרמא, ובפרט שהחדש אלול חדש הרחמים מתחיל ימים אלו, חדש שבו מתעורר לב כל אחד ואחת מבני ישראל, ונתגלה בו הנקודה הפנימית, אשר תמיד היתה באמנה אתו ית', ושאיפתה ותשוקתה היא, כמאמר נעים זמירות ישראל: אחת שאלתי מאת ד' אותה אבקש שבתי בבית ד' וגומר.
