Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of 15 Menachem Av, which followed a particularly long interruption. You explain your silence by stating that you had nothing to tell me. Obviously, my surprise is all the greater. Was there truly nothing to do since your last letter in the domain of Chabad*, despite the numerous opportunities available in the Holy Land?

Now, it seems to me that your last letter dates from more than twelve months ago. And I am certain that you yourself have no doubt about the answer to this question, just as you do not question the necessity of ensuring your own material livelihood every day, every week. And how much more so is this the case for spiritual sustenance.

Nor do you say a single word in your letter about your study of the revealed dimension of Torah* and of Chassidus*, and about the positive influence you exert on others. And I observe that this was the case in your previous letter as well.

May Hashem grant you the merit and success to perceive the situation as it truly is, in accordance with the very emphatic terms of the verse: "If you walk in My statutes." Rashi* explains: "By exerting effort in Torah*." The verse continues: "And if you keep My Mitzvos*" — which is indeed a commandment, whether or not one understands it. The consequence is that "I will give your rains in their season."

לאחרי הפסק הכי ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מט"ו מנ"א, ומ"ש סיבת שתיקתו כי לא הי' אצלו חדשות להודיע, הנה זה מגדיל את התמי' כ"פ ככה וכמובן, והאומנם אין מה לעשות בכרם חב"ד במקצועות הכי שונים אשר באה"ק ת"ו במשך כל הזמן מעת מכתבו האחרון (שכמדומה הוא יותר מי"ב חדש), ומובטחני שגם בעצמו אין ספק בהמענה על שאלה זו כמו שאין ספק בידו שזקוקים לפרנסה גשמית בכל יום ושבוע והרי עאכו"כ בהנוגע לפרנסה רוחנית, ואפילו ע"ד השיעורים שלו בתורת הנגלה ובתורת החסידות ובהשפעה על הזולת ג"כ אין מלה אחת במכתבו זה כמו שלא הי' במכתבו הקודם, והשי"ת יזכהו ויצליחו להכיר את המצב כמו שהוא מתאים להמקרא מלא דבר הכתוב אם בחקותי תלכו ופירש רש"י שתהיו עמלים בתורה ואת מצותי (לשון ציווי שאינו נוגע אם מבינים ומשיגים) תשמורו וגו' - אז מקיים הקב"ה - ונתתי גשמיכם בעתם וגו'.
