19 Menachem Av 5715

Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter of 8 Menachem Av, in which you tell me what the physician recommends in order for you to be in good health. As you know, the Torah* specifies that it grants the physician the authorization to heal. One must therefore comply with his prescriptions.
You mention once again your sadness. You should seek counsel from the young men of the Chabad* association. Moreover, you no doubt study Chassidus* each day, which clearly explains how one can put into practice the teaching of our holy Torah* according to which "you shall serve Hashem with joy." See also what the Rambam* says at the end of his Laws of the Lulav*.
These young men will help you so that you yourself may finally find yourself in a ray of light and joy. Obviously, the sooner the better, especially since the month during which one takes stock of the year that has just passed is the month of mercy, Elul*, which can rectify all the months that preceded it.
You ask me the difference between individual Providence (concerning only one person) and collective Providence (applying to a group, within which the individual dimension disappears). Various texts specify this, in particular the Moreh Nevuchim* (Guide for the Perplexed) or the Shomer Emunim*. You are a Yeshivah* student and, among the books ordinarily found in a Yeshivah*, you will also find the Sefer HaChinuch*, at Mitzvah* #169. Subsequently, a brilliant light was revealed, a new idea taught by a Sage but already given on Mount Sinai — the true definition of Divine Providence (see Letter #94). The well-known proof drawn from Tractate Chullin* 63a is familiar. All this will not be developed here.
With my blessing,
On behalf of the Rebbe Shlita*,
The secretary
N.B.: You present the novel explanations you conceived while studying the beginning of Tractate Chagigah*. These concern the reasoning of Rashi*, of Tosafos*, and the discussion between the Bavli* and the Yerushalmi*.
On this subject, you should consult the Turei Even*, at the same reference, the Minchas Chinuch*, at Mitzvah* #490, the notes of the Ma'ayan HaChochmah*, the Melechess Shlomo* on the Mishnah*, and other texts as well. Rav I. P. Perla explains all this at length regarding the Sefer HaMitzvos* of Rabbi Saadya Gaon*, at Injunction #46. At that reference, you will discover an extremely novel idea. Indeed, some consider that the vision of the sacrifice enters into the count of the Mitzvos* — and not the vision of the face (of the man who must "see the Face of Hashem" in the Beis HaMikdash*).
