To the distinguished Chassidim* who fear Hashem,

who direct the children's group in the

Chabad* house of study in the Meah Shearim

quarter — may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

You inform me that there are, in your group, two categories of children: those who come from extremely Orthodox families, who need only to be guided toward Torah* and Mitzvos*, and those who come from families that are not entirely Orthodox, who must still receive an education encouraging them to study Torah* and practice Mitzvos*.

It is clear that it is difficult to mix these two categories. You say that it will not be easy to make two separate groups.

Obviously, neither of these two groups must be neglected, for a single Jewish soul is, in itself, an entire world — and all the more so is this the case for a group. One cannot know which group will display the greater aptitude. Moreover, one may think — as our holy masters give the assurance — that both groups will indeed possess these aptitudes.

Indeed, the Heavenly Court decreed that, thanks to the self-sacrifice that was displayed for Chassidus*, all those who are connected to it and follow its path will have the upper hand in all that concerns Torah*, the fear of Hashem, and good character traits.

I have good hope and am certain that you will succeed in overcoming the difficulties, that you will increase quantitatively the number of participants in both groups. You will guide them on the path that leads to the house of Hashem, with the appropriate zeal. Hashem will grant you success, and you will see the fruit of your efforts. May He grant that this come about very soon.

Such a question could also arise in other places, wherever the Chabad* youth association conducts educational activity. I therefore ask you to make my position known to the leadership of the youth association, which will disseminate it among all those who may still be in doubt.

במענה על שאלתם שבהקבוצה ישנם שני סוגי נוער ממשפחות חרדיות קיצוניות, ואין זקוקים אלא להעדפה בתורה ומצותי', וממשפחות בלתי חרדיות לגמרי המוכרחים לחינוך בהנהגה דקיום המצות ובלימוד תורה, ומובן שקשה לצרף שני סוגים אלו יחד, ורואים גם קישוים אם יארגנו אותם לקבוצות נפרדות.

הנה מובן שאין לוותר אף על אחת מקבוצות אלו, כי אפילו נפש אחת מישראל ה"ה עולם מלא, ובפרט קבוצה, ואין יודעים איזה מהם יוכשר, וע"פ הבטחת נשיאנו הק' הרי בודאי שתיהם תוכשרנה, וכפסק בי"ד של מעלה אשר בגלל המסירות נפש הלזו על תורת החסידות, הנה בכל ענין של תורה, יראת שמים ומדות טובות תהי' יד מקושריו והלכי בעקבותיו על העליונה, ותקותי ובטחוני שישתדלו להתגבר על הקישוים ולהרבות הכמות היינו מספר שתי הקבוצות, ולעסוק בהדרכתם במסילה העולה בית א-ל במרץ הדרוש. והשי"ת יצליחם ויראו פרי טוב בעמלם, ויה"ר שיהי' זה בקרוב.

כיון שאפשר ותעמוד שאלה זו גם בשאר ובעוד מקומות אשר צעירי אגודת חב"ד מתעסקים בהם בעניני חינוך, בקשתי למסור השקפתי האמורה לעיל להנהלת צעירי אגו"ח, והם יפרסמוה במקומות עומדים בפסק זה.
