Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 8 Menachem Av. You tell me that on Friday evening and on Shabbos*, there is no organized study at the Yeshivah*. Obviously, I am profoundly horrified by this.

Beyond the facts themselves, I must say that I do not understand. One writes to me here about the most trivial concerns. On the other hand, Torah* is not being studied on Friday evening and Shabbos* in a Yeshivah* that was founded and directed by the Rebbe Rashab* and by his son, my father-in-law the Rebbe* — masters of Chassidus*. Yet no one deemed it necessary to inform me of this.

Moreover, no one considered it necessary to seek the means of filling this unacceptable gap. Perhaps in other Yeshivos* as well, there is no study on Friday evening and Shabbos* morning. In fact, such an error already existed in the era of the Talmud*, and it was then emphasized that one must imitate the example of those who act positively and not of those who are corrupt.

במענה על מכתבם מח' מנ"א... מ"ש שבערב ש"ק וביום ש"ק אין סדר לימוד בישיבה, הנה מובן שנבהלתי... ביותר וביותר, ונוסך על הענין בעצמו - הרי אינני מבין שבה בשעה שכותבים לכאן כמה מכתבים בענינים דחיצוניות וחיצוניות דחיצוניות, הנה במה שבעש"ק וביום ש"ק אין סדר לימוד בישיבה שיסודה ונהלוה כ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) ובנו כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר - נשיאי תורת החסידות, לא מצאו לנחוץ להודיע.

ועוד יותר - לא מצאו לנחוץ לחפש - עצות איך לתקן חסרון לא יוכל להימנות זה. אפשר שישנם עוד ישיבות שאין בהם סדר בעש"ק וביום ש"ק, וכבר היתה טענה זו בימי הש"ס - והורו דרך שיש ללמוד ממתוקנים שבהם ולא ממקולקלים שבהם...
