To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav Ephraim Eliezer HaKohen,

Greetings and blessings,

I have just received your letter, written during "the fast of the fifth" (i.e., the fast of the fifth month after Nissan — the fast of Tisha B'Av*), which will very soon be transformed into joy and gladness. You tell me that you reviewed the Chassidic discourse from the Likkutei Torah* entitled "Tzion shall be redeemed through judgment."

In this way, our thoughts crossed, for I did the same this Shabbos*. Nevertheless, I studied this discourse for my part at midday, and a few days later it was published with notes of the Tzemach Tzedek*, and I enclose it for you.

May Hashem soon fulfill the promise that "Tzion shall be redeemed through judgment and its captives through Tzedakah*" — in a spiritual sense, which will be the preparation and the vessel for it to be so likewise in the most literal sense, here below, concretely.
