Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of Rosh Chodesh* Menachem Av, and may Hashem grant that there be revealed very soon the "compassionate Father, just and beneficent" — as the word Av ("Father") also designates this month. This follows the explanation that my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, gives of the well-known passage of the holy Tanya*, in Iggeres HaKodesh*, chapter 22, page 134b, emphasizing that there are two ways of describing the Father. He explains that when one expresses one's love and moralizes, one does not give Him the title of "beneficent," whereas when one intercedes so that a visible and tangible good be revealed, one does indeed accord Him this title (see also Letter #3685).

In accordance with your request, I will mention your name and all those you cite in your letter at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, in keeping with what you write me. When you obtain good news (from those requesting a blessing), please do not fail to communicate it to me.

I enclose a pamphlet containing a Chassidic discourse of the Alter Rebbe* entitled "Tzion shall be redeemed through judgment," with notes of the Tzemach Tzedek*. For a certain reason, it has just been printed.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מר"ח מנ"א, ויה"ר שבקרוב ממש יקוים הענין דאב הרחמן הצדיק וחסיד דוקא, וכידוע דיוק כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, באגה"ק המפורסם סי' כ"ב (קל"ד ע"ב) בתניא קדישא, שבשני האופנים כתוב התואר אב, ודייק אשר כשהוא אוהבו שחרו מוסר לא נאמר התואר וחסיד, משא"כ, כשמליץ יושר שיהי' דוקא בטוב הנראה והנגלה, מוסיף, גם תואר זה.

כבקשתו אזכירו ואת כל אלו שכותב במכתבו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר כפי התוכן שבמכתבו. ובודאי כשיהיו בידו בשו"ט לא ימנע הטוב מלהודיעני.

מוסג"פ הקונטרס מאמר רבנו הזקן ציון במשפט תפדה עם הגהות כ"ק אדמו"ר הצ"צ, אשר לטעם ידוע נדפס עתה.
