To the Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav D.[1],

I greet you and bless you,

You have no doubt received my letter of Erev Shavuot*[2] and the previous one, defining everything concerning Torah Or* and Likkutei Torah*. I would here like to give you the information concerning the Piskei Dinim*, in addition to what appeared in my letter of Erev Pesach*[3].

A) To the extent possible, the Piskei Dinim will resemble the Tzemach Tzedek* published by Kehot* editions, which you no doubt possess, as does Rav Perlov*[4].

B) I wrote to you on the eve of Pesach that the title page should bear the notation: 'Second edition.' This is an error; it is the third edition.

C) My preface will be on the verso of the first title page.

You will reproduce my introduction to the Tzemach Tzedek responsa of Kehot editions, in the volume of Choshen Mishpat* or in the addenda, but with the following modifications:

1. After 'his explanations on the Talmud*,' add: 'Third edition of his halachic* decisions.'

2. After 'addenda to volume 3' and at the end, add: 'second volume of halachic decisions.'

3. The date will be 20 Menachem Av* 5708[5].

4. In the note, after the words 'responsa Orach Chaim*,' specify: 'These 644 responsa have been reprinted by reproduction of the first version, published in Shanghai in 5706.'

The following page will remain blank. On the page after, centered but toward the left, the first line at the top will bear: 'Piskei Dinim,' then below: 'Tzemach Tzedek.' Lower there will be a point and beneath it: 'First part: Shulchan Aruch* Orach Chaim and Yoreh De'ah*.' On the verso you will print an index, which will be composed as follows:

Then you will reproduce the current edition through the end of the first part.

E) The second part will constitute a second volume. You will reproduce what has just been said, but the first title page will be identical to that of the second volume of the Piskei Dinim, at the second title page, through 'Mendel*[6].' Instead of 'First part: Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim,' it will be necessary to specify: 'Second part: Shulchan Aruch Even HaEzer*, Choshen Mishpat, Commentaries and notes.'

On the verso there will be an index, whose text is as follows:

א) עד כמה שאפשר תהי' הוצאת הפס"ד בדומה להוצאת הצ"צ של קה"ת, בטח נמצאת אצלם ואצל הרב פערלאוו.

ב) כתבתי במכ' דעחה"פ בטעות שיהי' על השער הוצאה שני' אבל צ"ל הוצאה שלישית.

ג) הקדמתי (מעבר לשער הראשון):

להעתיק את הקדמתי לשו"ת הצ"צ שבהוצאת קה"ת חלק חו"מ או שער המילואים אבל בשינויים אלו: א) אחר תיבות וחידושיו על הש"ס להוסיף ובהוצאה שלישית את הפסקי דינים שלו. ב) אחר תיבות המילואים ח"ג להוסיף ובסוף הפס"ד ח"ב. ג) הזמן צ"ל עשרים בחדש מנחם אב ה'תש"ח. ד) בהערה אחר תיבות שו"ת או"ח להוסיף תרמד (פסקי דינים ב"ח) הפס"ד נדפסו שנית בפוטגרפיא מהוצאה הא' בשנגהאי בשנת ה'תש"ו.

ד) עמוד שלאחר זה
