Blessings and greetings,

I am responding to your letter of 25 Tammuz*. I learned with satisfaction that your business is experiencing a recovery. You tell me that, for various reasons, you were led to refuse a greater number of orders. I do not approve of this attitude at all. When one obtains success and the channel (conveying the blessing) widens, one must enlarge the vessel below, receive the blessing — one cannot claim that one is not yet ready to absorb it by refusing orders.

From a material standpoint as well, your way of acting is not correct. Indeed, the one whose order you refused will seek another supplier, and he will not do so only once (he will permanently abandon the one who could not honor his order).

You are considering forming a partnership with this Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs. I am pleased, for various reasons this proposal is sound. But obviously, the specific aspects will need to be discussed. As our Sages* recommend, it would be good for all the points to be put in writing, so as to leave no room for doubt. In this way, peace will reign between you — not only in concrete action, for the conduct of a Chassid* cannot be suspected (of dishonesty), but also in the hearts and in a deep manner.

במענה על מכתבו מכ"ה תמוז, נהניתי לקרות בו אשר הוטב מצב העסק, ומ"ש אשר מפני סיבות הי' מוכרח לסרב לקבל יותר הזמנות לא נראה לי הנהגה זו כלל, וכשמראים הצלחה ומרחיבים הצנור הרי צריך להרחיב הכלים למטה לקבל ההשפעה ולא לאמר שעדיין אינם מוכנים כלים לקליטה, ולכן אינו מקבל ההזמנה, וגם בגשמיות איןן הנהגתו מתאימה כי הרי זה שמסרב לקבל הזמנותיו בטח יחפש המזמין סוחר אחר ואין זה ענין חד פעמי.

נהניתי מהסברא לעשות שותפות עם הוו"ח אי"א עוסק בצ"צ מוה"ר... שבכלל נכונה הצעה זו מכמה טעמים אף שמובן שצריכים להתדבר על הפרטים בזה, וע"פ הנהגת חז"ל טוב שיהיו כל התנאים בכתב למען לא ישאר כל מקום לספק, ובמילא ישרה השלום ביניהם, לא רק השלום במעשה שלא נחשד חסיד על מעשה ח"ו, אלא גם השלום בלב ובפנימיות.
