To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav* Chaim (Rav H. Plotkin; see letter no. 2044 regarding him), the Shochet*,

Blessings and greetings,

I am responding to your letter of the eve of Shabbos* Parshas* Pinchas. You have surely already received my reply to your previous letter.

I learned with satisfaction from your letter that you are involved with the Maamad* (a fund collection for the Rebbe's specific undertakings). In this way, you will surely know increased success regarding your state of health and your personal concerns.

I hope that you are energetically seeking a means to publicly teach Torah*, in the appropriate manner. First of all, the spiritual benefit will be considerable. Furthermore, one can hope that with time, material good will also result from it.

Obviously, all the expenses you incur for the Maamad* must be deducted from what is collected. You know the story that my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, recounted on this subject. When his father, the Rebbe Rashab*, whose merit protects us, entrusted a mission in Petersburg to Rav* Shmuel Gurary, who was immensely wealthy, he gave him an amount from his fund to cover his expenses. Now, this Chassid*, Rav* Shmuel, was extremely affluent and, of course, particularly pleased to have received such a mission. Despite this, the Rebbe* insisted that the expenses be covered by his fund. Certain texts explain the reason for this.

In accordance with your request, I will mention your name and that of your wife at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, so that you be in good health, with long days and good years.

May Hashem grant you success, so that you give good news of yourself, of the members of your family, and of all those around you.

מכתבו הקודם.

שמחתי לקרוא במכתבו ,שמתעסק בעניני מעמד ,ובטח זה יביא לו

תוספת הצלחה בבריאות ובענינים הפרטים שלו.

הנני מקוה שמחפש במרץ אופן המתאים ללמוד עם הציבור,

וכיו״ב .שנוסף על העיקר ,התועלת ברוחניות ,יש לקוות שבמשך הזמן

תהי׳ בזה תועלת גם בגשמיות.

מובן מאליו שאת כל ההוצאות שיש לו בקשר לענינים של מעמד,

הרי זה חייב להיות על חשבון ועד המעמד ,וכידוע הסיפור של כ״ק מו״ח

אדמו״ר שכאשר אביו כ״ק אדמו״ר מוהרש״ב ״ זצוקללה״ה נבג״מ

זי״ע ,שלח את הגביר האדיר מוה״ר שמואל ע״ה גורארי׳ בשליחות

לפטרסבורג ,נתן לו מקופתו כמה שנחוץ להוצאות .והגם שמובן מאליו

עד כמה שמח החסיד הגביר האדיר מוה״ר שמואל ע״ה מהשליחות,

אעפ״כ רצה הרבי שההוצאות תצאנה דוקא מקופתו ,וכמבואר הטעם

בזה במקומות אחרים.

על פי בקשתו אזכיר אותו ואת זוגתו תחי׳ על הציון הק׳ של כ״ק

מו״ח אדמו״ר זצוקללה״ה נבג״מ זי״ע ,לבריאות טובה ולאריכות ימים

ושנים טובות ,והשי״ת יצליחו לבשר בשורות טובות בהנוגע לעצמו ולבני

ביתו ולכל הסביבה.
