Blessings and greetings,

I am responding to your letter of 8 Tammuz*, in which you ask me when you should travel to France (in order to continue your studies at the Yeshivah* of Brunoy, in the Paris region).

In the summer, the organization of the Yeshivah* there undergoes several changes. It is therefore not advisable to arrive precisely when the routine is being altered. Accordingly, it is preferable to postpone this trip until the end of the summer or the beginning of the winter.

Obviously, this trip will be beneficial to the extent that you make the firm decision to adopt the organization of the Yeshivah*. Now, it is not easy to change one's conduct all at once, from one extreme to the other. From this perspective, it is useful that the trip be delayed, for during these months you will be able to adapt, little by little, to such an organization (whose schedule must be scrupulously observed).

To that end, you will become, in the meantime, a student of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* of Montreal (where the addressee of this letter presumably resides). You will not merely adopt the organization of this Yeshivah*, which presumably must also be modified in the summer. In fact, you will also endeavor to observe the schedule that is in effect throughout the year.

You will study Torah* with ardor and enthusiasm. You will adopt, in word and in deed, the conduct befitting a student of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*. And Hashem will grant that you be able to give good news of all of this.

במענה על מכתבו מח' תמוז, בו שואל דעתי אודות זמן נסיעתו לצרפת.

והנה בזמן הקיץ יש שם כמה שינויים בסדרי הישיבה, ולכן אין כדאי כ"כ לבוא שם דוקא בזמן שהסדרים אינם סדרים הרגילים, ויש לחכות בנסיעה זו עד סוף הקיץ או תחלת החורף.

מובן ופשוט אשר תהי' תועלת בהנסיעה אם יחליט בהחלטה גמורה להתנהג בהישיבה מתאים להסדרים שלה, וכיון שלא קל לאדם לשנות את עצמו בפעם אחת מן הקצה אל הקצה, הנה גם בזה תועלת במה שמתעכבת הנסיעה, כי בהחדשים שבינתים עליו להתרגל צער אחד צעד להנהגה האמורה לעיל, והוא על ידי שילמוד בינתים בישיבת תומכי תמימים דמאנטרעאל, ולא לבד בשמירת הסדרים דימי הקיץ אשר בודאי גם במאנטרעאל אינם בסדרים הרגילים, אלא מתאם לסדרים הרגילים בכל השנה, וילמוד בהתמדה ושקידה ויתנהג כמתאים לתלמיד ישיבת תומכי תמימים בדבור ובמעשה, והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב בכל הנ"ל.
