Blessings and greetings,

I have duly received your letter of 8 Tammuz*, with the notes it contained. These will be read, at a propitious time, at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us.

You tell me about your interventions with the family of this young man, and I am pleased. It seems to you, for the present, that you have obtained no results. You must not, however, be discouraged by this, Heaven forbid. It is established that an effort is never in vain. Moreover, it is highly useful and brings many results. But sometimes this takes a little longer.

You know what Avos de Rabbi Noson*, chapter 6, says in commenting on the statement that "water was able to dissolve the stones." Indeed, it flows drop by drop, and ultimately it leaves its imprint even upon material stone.

How much more is this the case for the "heart of stone" of every Jewish man and every Jewish woman. For this expression has only a figurative meaning. It is not, strictly speaking, stone — not even in a spiritual sense. Indeed, Chassidus* explains that deep within, everyone is good and desires to fulfill the divine commandments.

Our Sages* observe that "all Jewish women are beautiful, but poverty makes them unsightly." And "there is no poor person except one who lacks knowledge." Hashem will grant you success, and your effort will soon be rewarded.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מח' תמוז, עם הרשימות המוסגר בו, אשר יקראו בעת רצון על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.

נהניתי ממ"ש ע"ד השתדלותו אצל משפחת האברך... שי', ומה שלע"ע נדמה לו שאין פועלים פירות, לא יפול ח"ו ברוחו וחזקה לתעמולה שאינה חוזרת ריקם, ולא זו בלבד אלא שמביא תועלת גדולה ופירי פירות, אף שלפעמים דורש זמן יותר קצת, וכבר ידוע המובא באדר"נ פ"ו על מ"ש אבנים שחקו מים שטיף אחר טיף סו"ס עושה חקיקה בהאבן הגשמי, עאכו"כ בלב האבן של בן ובת ישראל שאין זה אלא שם המושאל ולא אבן ממש אפילו במובן הרוחני, כמבואר בתורת חהסידות אשר הפנימיות של כל אחד ואחת מבני ישראל בשלימות הוא ורוצה לקיים ציווי השי"ת, וכמרז"ל בנות ישראל נאות הן אלא שהעניות (אין עני אלא בדעת) מנוולתן, והשי"ת יצליחו שיראה פרי טוב בעמלו בקרוב.
