Blessings and greetings,

I am responding to your letter of 6 Tammuz*, in which you tell me that a young woman has been proposed to you in marriage.

This is indeed a good proposal.

You also write that she has a brother who is older than she. She must therefore ask his forgiveness in the presence of three Jews, and he must declare that he forgives her wholeheartedly. Additionally, you yourself, the young woman, and her parents will contribute a certain amount toward the expenses of this brother's wedding, when it takes place at a good and fruitful time.

With my blessing for giving good news of all of this,

ומה שכותב שיש לה אח גדול ממנה בשנים, יש לסדר לבקש מחילה אצלו ושיעשה זה בפני שלשה מישראל שיאמר שמוחל הוא בלבב שלם, ונוסף על זה ישלש הוא וכן המדוברת וההורים שלה, איזה סכום להוצאות הנשואין של האח לכשיצטרך בשעה טובה ומוצלחת.
