Blessings and greetings,

I am responding to your undated letter. You tell me that some time ago you pursued studies at the Yeshivah* with success. Subsequently, you feel you have lost this success. You are unable to connect to the study. You consequently have a feeling of inferiority and do not know whether you will achieve success in study. You ask me what I think.

If you will listen to me, banish this feeling and all these thoughts — not only from your heart but from your four amos* entirely. Continue your study of our Torah*, the Torah* of life. Nevertheless, ask the Rosh Yeshivah* to allow you to learn what you desire, at first, in the class that suits you. All your fears are without foundation. They are nothing but the artifices of the evil inclination*.

Nevertheless, in every situation, everyone needs the help of Hashem. The Holy One, blessed be He, acts "measure for measure." It would therefore be good for you to become the spiritual guide of a group of young men who will, of course, be younger than you. When you are not studying yourself, you will teach them the weekly Parshah*, the laws they will apply in daily life — or, more precisely, you will discuss these with them, advising them in Jewish customs.

I am convinced that you will achieve success in this domain, and this will be further proof that all your fears are unfounded. In this way, you will progress in your study and do so with success.

No doubt, from now on, you will observe the three daily studies that concern everyone, instituted by my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. They cover the Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya* and are well known. Likewise, you will give two or three coins to tzedakah* every weekday before prayer. Obviously, you will adopt all these practices without making them a vow.

במענה על מכתבו - בלי הוראת זמן הכתיבה - בו כותב אשר לפני זמן למד בישיבה והצליח בלימודים, ואשר אח"כ לפי דעתו סרה ההצלחה ממנו, אינו יכול להתקשר אל הלימוד כו' וכו', ובמילא הרגש של נחיתות בלבו ומסופק אם יצליח בלימודו, ושואל דעתי בזה.

והנה אם בקולי ישמע יגרש את הרגש הנ"ל, וגם את המחשבות הנ"ל כליל לא רק מלבו אלא גם המד' אמות שלו, וימשיך בלימוד בתורתנו תורת חיים, אלא שיבקש את הראש ישיבה בכתה המתאימה אליו שיסדר לימודו במשך זמן הראשון עכ"פ במקום שלבו חפץ, והחששות הנ"ל אין להם יסוד והם מפיתויי היצר.

אלא שכיון שבכל ענין וכל אדם זקוק לסייעתא דשמיא, ומדתו של הקב"ה מדה כנגד מדה, מהנכון ביותר שיעשה הוא למשפיע לקבוצת נערים, כמובן בגיל יותר צעיר ממנו, ובזמנים הפנוים מלימוד שלו, ילמוד עמהם או יותר נכון ישוחח עמהם בעניני פרשת השבוע, הלכות הצריכות בחיי היום יומים של נערים כאלו וידריכם במנהגי ישראל המתאימים להם, וכיון שמובטחני שיצליח בזה, גם זו תהי' הוכחה נוספת שהחששות הנ"ל אין להם כל יסוד ועלה יעלה בלימוד ויצליח בהם.

בודאי ישמור עכ"פ מכאן ולהבא שלשתה שיעורים השוים לכל נפש מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים, וכן יפריש בכל יום חול קודם התפלה - שתים שלש פרוטות לצדקה, מובן שכ"ז צ"ל בלי נדר -.
