To the distinguished Chassid*,

Rav* Avraham, who is known as Dr. Aharonov,

Blessings and greetings,

I received your news with pleasure through the great Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav* Eliezer Karasik. He writes to me that in your youth, you were a student at the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* in Lubavitch. The vitality, the light, and the flame that one draws from there are "a perpetual fire that is never extinguished," and ultimately they produce their effect in an evident manner.

Obviously, not everyone is the same with regard to the amount of time needed for this effect to become manifest. Likewise, it does not always express itself in the same domain. Nevertheless, matter — even in its most minuscule quantity — can never disappear; it merely changes form. How much more is this the case for the spirit, which vivifies and perpetuates this matter. To someone like you, it is surely unnecessary to say more.

In this regard, I was doubly pleased to note your desire to participate financially in the construction of one of the institutions of Kfar Chabad*, in our Holy Land*, may it be restored and rebuilt. In my view, it would be good for it to be one of the buildings of the vocational school. There is an immediate need for this, given the mindset of the majority of immigrants arriving of late — that is, our Sephardic brethren.

The present era has a characteristic that the previous one did not. When a young boy enters a school in which he can receive a good education, it is possible not only to provide him with the knowledge he needs for his spiritual and also material existence, but above all to help him distance himself from evil — to save him from an idle life, with the harmful consequences it can have. This has been verified consistently. How much more is this the case of late, for our generation, whose upheaval bears upon the very foundation of existence.

You have surely seen the letter of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us (see Sefer HaMaamarim* 5708, from page 296), which draws a comparison between the healing of the body and that of the soul. It was published in the pamphlet that appeared for the 18th of Elul* 5708 (1948).

I have good hope that you study Torah*, in general, and Chassidus*, in particular. As you know, thinkers say that the creation of matter was accomplished from the spirit.

נעם לי לקבל פ"ש ממנו ע"י הרה"ג והרה"ח אי"א נו"נ עוסק בצ"צ וכו' מוה"ר אליעזר שי' קרסיק, אשר כותב לי כי בצעירותו למד בישיבת תומכי תמימים בליובאוויטש, אשר החיות האור והאש שלקחו שם - הם אש תמיד לא תכבה, וסו"ס פועלים פעולתם גם בגלוי, אף כי כמובן שלא כל האנשים שוים במשך הזמן הדרוש לגילוי הפעולה ובסוג הענינים בהם פועלים, ובמכש"כ ומה החומר אפילו חלק היותר קטן ממנו אינו הולך לאבוד כ"א משנה צורה ומחליף צורה, עאכו"כ עניני הרוח שהוא המחי' ומקיים את החומר, ובודאי לדכוותי' האריכות בזה מיותרת.

ובקשר עם זה הנה נהניתי בכפלים מהבעת רצונו להשתתף בהוצאות הבני' של אחד המוסדות בכפר חב"ד אשר באה"ק ת"ו, ולדעתי מהנכון שיהי' בבתים הקשורים עם בתי הספר למלאכה שזהו דרישת השעה כמתאים לתכונת נפש העולים החדשים מאחינו הספרדים שהם רוב מנין העולים החדשים בזמן האחרון, ונוסף בזה עתה על התקופה הקודמת שכשקולטים נער לבית ספר דחינוך הכשר הרי זה, לא לבד שנותנים לו הידיעות הנחוצות בשבילו בחיים הרוחנים וגם בחיים הגשמיים, אלא שעוד יותר גדול בזה הסיוע דסור מרע שמצילים אותו מחיי בטלה אשר הבטלה מביאה לידי כו' וכו', וכמו שראו במוחש תמיד ועאכו"כ בתקופה האחרונה של דורנו המזועזע עד היסוד.

בטח ראה מכתב כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע ע"ד הדמיון שבין רפואת הגוף ורפואת הנפש (נדפס בקונטרס ח"י אלול תש"ח). תקותי חזקה אשר יש לו שיעורים בתורה בכלל ובחסידות בפרט, וכבר ידוע מאמר החוקרים אשר יסוד הבריאות בגשמיות הוא דוקא מהרוחניות.
