Blessings and greetings,

A) I am responding to your letter of the 17th (the Rebbe writes "Tov" — good — whose numerical value is seventeen) of Sivan, in which you discuss your work in the vocational school as a spiritual guide. And, from information I have obtained from other sources, one can observe a positive development among the students since you assumed these functions. This is manifest in particular in their Torah* study and their practice of mitzvos*.

Obviously, all of this is not yet sufficient. One observes, indeed, a positive development, but "all beginnings are difficult." You and your friends will therefore invest yourselves in this sacred mission, so that the improvement continues. Hashem will grant you success.

May Hashem grant that your students be an example of what children studying in a Chabad* school should be.

B) In light of what has been said, and knowing that "the Holy One, blessed be He, does not withhold the reward of any creature" and that He acts "measure for measure," this activity will also bring you success in your personal situation, in the three domains of the service of Hashem: Torah*, the sacrifices — and the prayer that replaces them — and good deeds, which correspond to the mitzvos*.

You will know great success in the time you set aside for the study of the revealed part of the Torah* and of Chassidus*. In a relatively short time, you will achieve the same success as in a long period. The Alter Rebbe* explains (at the beginning of Torah Or*) that "one obtains a mind and a heart a thousand times more refined."

C) One can also deduce from all of this that one should not be troubled or disconcerted to the point of considering moving to another place, especially if you would do so in order to improve yourself in Torah* and its related matters. Indeed, the result depends on the help of Hashem, which is obtained through actions that bring it to light.

And nothing is more important than separating the grain from the chaff, as our Sages* emphasize (in Tractate Bava Metzia* 85a) regarding this verse (Yirmiyahu* 15:19).

With my blessing for tremendous success in the mission just defined, with joy, as it is said, "Serve Hashem with joy,"

במענה על מכתבו מטו"ב סיון, בו כותב אודות עבודתו בבי"ס למלאכה בתור מדריך רוחני, ואשרי חלקו, כי כפי שקבלתי ידיעות מן הצד, נראה שינוי לטוב בהתלמידים מעת התחיל להתעסק בהנ"ל, הן בנוגע ללימוד והן בהנוגע לשמירת המצות. ואף שמובן שאין זה מספיק עדיין, הרי כיון שניכרת הזזה לטוב, ורק כל התחלתו קשות, בודאי ישתדלו הוא וחבריו בעבודה קדושה זו להיטיב המצב עוד יותר, וחפץ ד' בידם יצליח. ויה"ר שיוכלו תלמידיהם לשמש דוגמא למופת מתלמידי בי"ס חב"ד.

ב) בהתאם להנ"ל מובן ג"כ, שכיון שאין הקב"ה מקפח שכר כל ברי' ומדתו של הקב"ה מדה כנגד מדה - הרי עבודתו זו תוסיף גם הצלחה בהנוגע למעמדו ומצבו הוא, בשלשת הקוים תורה, עובדה (שתפלה כנגד קרבנות תקנום) וגמ"ח (שכוללת - ענין המצות). ובקביעות עתים שלו בלימוד תורת הנגלה ותורת החסידות יראה הצלחה רבה, שבזמן מועט לפי ערך יצליח כבזמן מרובה ביותר, וכפירוש רבנו הזקן, אשר נעשים מוחו לבו זכים אלף פעמים ככה.

ג) מכל הנ"ל מובן ג"כ, שאין לבלבל ולגרום פיזור הנפש על מחשבות של מנסיעות למקום אחר. ובפרט - אם הכוונה להשתלמות בתורה ועניני', התלוים בסייעתא דשמיא הבאה ע"י ענינים הגורמים לסייעתא דשמיא, שאין לך ענין גדול מזה מלהוציא יקר מזולל, וכדרז"ל על פ"ז...

בברכת הצלחה מופלגה בעבודה האמורה לעיל ומתוך שמחה וכמ"ש עבדו את ה' בשמחה.
