emissary of the Sages*,

Blessings and greetings,

I am responding to your undated letter, along with its contents.

I am surprised that you say nothing about the positive activities you carry out in your location, especially during the time of the giving of our Torah*, and close to it — on the Shabbos* that blesses the month, and on Lag BaOmer*.

It is surprising that such a remark needs to be made, especially to someone who knows perfectly well the outlook, in this domain, of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. According to him, the mission of an emissary of the Sages* consists essentially of "gathering material goods and sowing spirituality" (see letters no. 3070 and 3706) — including for the emissaries themselves and for the institutions, and all the more so for one who is the emissary of our teachers.

You tell me that you are thinking of traveling to Frisco (San Francisco). May Hashem grant you success in all domains, material and spiritual. It is unnecessary to mention that when you visit the Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, of illustrious lineage and a friend of ours, Rav* Sh. Bespalov (Rav Shneur Zalman Bespalov), you will convey to him my very special greetings and inquire about their well-being in detail.

לפלא שאינו כותב כלל ע"ד פעולותיו בקדש במקומו, ובפרט בימי זמן מ"ת ובהסמוכים להם ש"ק מברכין ול"ג בעומר וכו', ולפלא שצריכים לעורר על זה, ובפרט למי שיודעים היטבה השקפת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע בכגון דא, בעיקר תפקידם של שד"רים קלייבען גשמיות און זייען רוחניות, אפילו בנוגע להמשולחים דהמוסדות וכו'.

להודעתו אשר מתכונן לנסוע לפריסקא וכו', הנה יה"ר שיהי' בהצלחה בכל הענינים הן בגשמיות והן ברוחניות, ובודאי למותר לעוררו כשיבקר את הרה"ח אי"א נו"נ בר אבהן ידיד בית אבות מוהר"ש זלמן שי' בעזפאלאוו, ימסור להם פ"ש במיוחד, ויקבל פ"ש גם מהם בפרטיות.
