Every new awareness is, at first, primarily constituted of light. One is therefore dazzled and enthusiastic, evidently. But ultimately, concrete action must change in daily life, and the lights must be introduced into vessels*. From that point on, it is necessary to conceal one's emotion, to feel the enthusiasm less acutely, and to concentrate on the act, which is indeed the ultimate purpose.

Do not listen, therefore, to the incitations of your evil inclination*, which claims that all of this should lead you to sadness, Heaven forbid. Serve Hashem, on the contrary, in a methodical manner. Introduce the lights into many vessels*. In the domain of holiness*, there is an established principle: "I will drive him out little by little." This applies to Torah* study as well as to the practice of mitzvos* — in particular, to love of one's fellow. One cannot accomplish it all at once, through a single leap forward, except in exceptional situations.

For all of this, it is necessary to have a healthy body, and one must therefore adopt corresponding conduct in everything that concerns food, drink, and sleep.

The Tanya* says, in chapter 7, that "one who eats fatty ox meat in order to attain breadth of mind for Hashem and for His Torah* is considered as if he offered a sacrifice." And, "the Torah* has granted the physician the authority to heal." Consequently, when there is the slightest doubt in this matter, or when one experiences pain, one must consult the physician and comply with his prescription. If one adopts such an approach, step by step, one achieves moral success and therefore material success as well.

Hashem has commanded us to be joyful in all circumstances, and one can verify concretely that what is accomplished joyfully is more perfect and more noble. And this is most beneficial for physical health as well as for spiritual health.
