Greetings and blessings,
You pose the following question. You have adopted the practice of praying at greater length and, as a result, you no longer hear the Kedushah* recited by the chazzan*. You ask me whether you should maintain this practice or whether it is preferable to shorten your prayer in order to hear the Kedushah*.
Fervor is a fundamental element of prayer. It is even a general requirement (see letter no. 2588), without which the prayer is without value (see the Rambam*, laws of prayer, chapter 4; the Shulchan Aruch* of the Alter Rebbe*, chapter 98, end of paragraph 2; the Kuntres Acharon* of the Tanya*, p. 154b; the Chiddushei Rabbi Chaim HaLevi* on the Rambam*, at the same reference). There is therefore no reason to diminish the meditation of the prayer and the time devoted to it, even in order to hear the Kedushah*.
The Tzemach Tzedek* reaches this conclusion in his responsa, printed in the Shaar HaMiluim*, chapter 11. You will also consult the references he cites.
With my blessing,
M. Schneerson,
