To the great Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav Shlomo* (Rav S. Matusof, of Casablanca*, Morocco; see letter no. 3010),

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of 13 Sivan*, in which you tell me that the arrangement of a new location in Casablanca* has been completed. May Hashem grant that your good students multiply and that your efforts be rewarded. You will provide them with a holy and wholesome education, based on Torah* and Chassidus*.

Concerning the unions you discuss (see letter no. 3536): is there a sufficient reason, in accordance with the Shulchan Aruch*, that permits extending to this degree the interval between the engagement decision and the actual marriage? Or is it a custom without foundation? If so, it must be eliminated, in a kind and diplomatic manner. Who, in our era, can conscientiously ask for an arrow to be shot at him? In any case, the engagement period of Chassidim* and those connected to them must be shortened.

... בעניני השידוכין שכותב אודותם: היש סיבה מספיקה ומתאימה ע"פ שו"ע להארכת זמן כ"כ בין גמר השידוך בכל וזמן הנישואין? או שזהו רק מנהג בלי כל יסוד, ואז כדאי לבטלו בדרכי נועם ודיפלומטיא, כי מי בדורנו יכול לומר גירא בעינא כו'.

ועכ"פ לקצר זמן זה בשידוכי אנ"ש והמשתייכים להם.
