Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of Monday. As you request, I will mention the name of your wife at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, so that she have a speedy recovery.

From the way you describe the situation in your letter, it appears that a large part of her pain is of nervous origin. She should therefore think as little as possible about all of this, concentrating on other thoughts and, above all, she should strengthen her trust in Hashem, Who "heals all flesh and performs wonders." In this way, she will recover as quickly as possible.

Obviously, this does not exclude following the prescriptions of the doctor. Indeed, it is said that "the Torah* has authorized the doctor to heal," and one must therefore systematically follow natural channels.

In accordance with the saying of the Baal Shem Tov*, which we have heard many times from my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, that everything a Jew sees or hears must convey a lesson on his manner of serving Hashem — you specify in your letter that you serve in the police. You must therefore seize every opportunity that presents itself to sanctify the Name of Hashem by showing that "Hashem establishes His authority on the earth," as in the verse Iyov* 38:33.

This must be so in your private life as in the exercise of your duties. May Hashem grant that this also contribute to the fulfillment of your needs in general and to the improvement of your wife's health in particular.

במענה על מכתבו מיום שני, הנה כבקשתו יזכירו את זוגתו... על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע לרפואה קרובה, וכפי שמתאר המצב במכתבו הנה כנראה שחלק גדול במיחושה הוא מצד העצבים (ניערווין), ולכן מובן שככל שתסיח דעתה מזה על ידי עסק בענינים אחרים, והעיקר, ככל שתתחזק בבטחונה בהשם יתברך הרופא כל בשר ומפליא לעשות ימהר זה הטבת בריאותה, ומובן שאין הנ"ל שולל כלל מילוי הוראת הרופא, כי הרי התורה נתנה רשות לרופא לרפאות, ולכל דבר צריך להיות אחיזה גם בדרך הטבע.

ועל פי מה ששמענו כמה פעמים מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר פתגם הבעל שם טוב, שבכל דבר שאיש ישראל רואה ושומע יש בזה הוראה בעבודתו את קונו, הנה כיון שמשרתו על פי מכתבו היא במשטרה, עליו לנצל כל הזדמנות שבאה לידו לקדש שם שמים, על ידי שיראה אשר האלקים שם שמטרו בארץ (איוב ל"ח ל"ג) הן בחייו הפרטים והן במשרתו, ויהי רצון שגם זה יוסיף בהמצטרך לו בכלל ובהנוגע לבריאות אשתו תחי' בפרט.
