To the great Rav, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Shalom (Rav Sh. Rivkin; see letters no. 1653 and 1913),

Greetings and blessings,

I am surprised that you have told me nothing about the development of "the candle (which) is a mitzvah* and the Torah* (which) is a light," as well as the luminary of the Torah* (Chassidus*), its customs and practices, in your surroundings, through the appropriate campaign and the ardent effort that is necessary on your part.

You surely know what Iggeres HaKodesh* says in chapter 14. Each day, a higher intellectual power and a new light are revealed, one that has never yet illuminated the world. One can conclude from this that the effort invested here below — or at least the vessels forged to contain all of this — must also increase. Indeed, the Halachah* follows the opinion of Beis Hillel* (according to which one kindles the Chanukah* lights in ascending order).
