Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 12 Iyar*, in which you tell me of your fears regarding the influence exerted on you by certain people who seek to draw you toward a way of life that would depart from faith and the mitzvos*. You therefore wish to go to a Yeshivah* outside of Eretz Yisrael*.

Nevertheless, if that is indeed your sole motivation, know that there are many places in the Holy Land where good Yeshivos* are to be found. You can therefore go there and study Torah* with diligence and enthusiasm. If you do so while forming bonds with friends, they will know how to strengthen you so that you truly advance on the path that leads to the house of Hashem, as it is said: "You who are attached to Hashem your Elokim* are all alive today."

There are many Yeshivos* that are imbued with the fear of Hashem, in a deep manner and even outwardly — for example, in the manner in which the students dress. All of this enables a person to restrain himself, to find the strength necessary not to follow the evil inclination. Even if, at first, it adopts seductive language, in the end it is "bitter as wormwood" — not only in the spiritual dimension but physically as well.

With my blessing for success in all the above and as soon as possible, preferably in one of the Yeshivos* of the Holy Land,

במענה על מכתבו מי"ב אייר, בו כותב שירא הוא מהשפעת איז אנשים שממשיכים אותו לאורח חיים חפשי מדת ומצות, וגם לקבוץ חפשי, ולכן רוצה לנסוע לישיבה בחו"ל.

אבל אם זה, רק זה הסיבה, הרי כמה מקומות ישנם באה"ק ת"ו שבם ישיבות כדבעי למיהוי, והרי יכול להכנס בתוכם וללמוד בהתמדה ושקיה וכשילמוד בדבוק חברים הרי יחזקוהו בהליכה בדרך העולה בית א-ל, וכמוש נאמר ואתם הדבקים בה' אלקיכם חיים כולכם היום, וכמה ישיבות ישנן שהן חדורים יראת שמים בן בפנימיות ואפילו בחיצוניות, היינו בהלבושים וכיו"ב, שכל זה מגדיר את האדם ומוסיף בכחותיו שלא להתפתות אחרי היצה"ר אשר גם אם בראשיתו שפתי חלקות לו הנה אחריתו מרה כלענה לא רק ברוחניות אלא גם בגשמיות.
