To the great Rav, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, of manifold accomplishments, a man of letters and a writer, Rav Yehoshua (Rav Y. Sheftman; see letter no. 1872),

Greetings and blessings,

I received with pleasure your letter of this Wednesday. Be as gratified as I was by what you wrote to me about the Chassidic* farbrengen*. You tell me that you wish to broaden the activities so that they reach the outside as well. It is certain that, if you truly desire this, Hashem will give you the means.

You know the letter of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, printed in the collection of notes and summaries on the Tanya*, which states that "thanks to the self-sacrifice that he (the Alter Rebbe*) showed for the teaching of Chassidus*, the Heavenly Court decided (after the liberation of 19 Kislev*; see letter no. 3429) that in all matters pertaining to Torah*, the fear of Hashem, and good conduct, those who are connected to him and follow his path will prevail."

I was particularly pleased to learn that you will give a lecture to the Chabad* women on the day of the Hilula* of Rabbi Shimon ben Yochai* (Lag BaOmer*), which approaches. Rabbi Akiva* said to him: "Only I and your Creator know your greatness," according to the Yerushalmi* Sanhedrin, chapter 1, paragraph 2. Moreover, he was one of the five students of Rabbi Akiva*, to whom also applies what Rabbi Akiva* himself said, according to Tractate Kesubos* 63a: "What I possess and what you possess (the Torah that Rabbi Akiva taught his students) is thanks to her (the wife of Rabbi Akiva)." It is therefore fitting to address the women on Lag BaOmer*.

May Hashem grant that all of this have a concrete effect. Indeed, our Sages* say, "the deed is essential."

נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מיום ד'... תנוח רוחו כאשר הניח את רוחי בכתבו ע"ד התועדות דאנ"ש, ואשר ברצונם להרחיב פעולות בהפצת המעיינות שיגיעו אפילו חוצה, ובודאי כשירצו באמת, חפץ ד' בידם יצליח, וכיודע ממכתב כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הנדפס בספר קיצורים והערות לנציא, אשר "בכלל המסירת נפש הלזו על תורת החסיודת פסקו בבי"ד של מעלה, אשר בכל ענין של תורה יראת שמים ומדות טובות, תהי' יד מקושריו והולכי בעקבותיו על העליונה".

בפרטיות נהניתי ממה שמתכונן לנאום לפני נשי חב"ד בהילולא דרשב"י הבע"ל, אחד המיוחד, וכמאמר רבי עקיבא אני ובוראך מכירים כחך (ירושלמי סנהדרין פ"א הלכה ב) בחמשה תלמידים רבי עקיבא שהם העמידו תורתו, ושכמאמר רבי עקיבא (שלי ושלכם) שלה - הוא (כתובות ס"ג א).

ויה"ר שיביא לפועל, וכמרז"ל המעשה הוא העיקר.
