To the Rav, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and assumes a sacred mission, Rav Shneur Zalman (Rav S. Z. Levittin, of Brunoy; see letters no. 507 and 664),

Greetings and blessings,

I received with pleasure your letter of 25 and 27 Nissan*, which followed a long silence. I have already transmitted, through the Chassid*, Rav N. N. (Rav Nissan Nemanov, of Brunoy), that each of you must act with all your enthusiasm and with all your strength for the education of the young men coming from Morocco (in order to continue their studies at the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* Lubavitch of Brunoy, France; see letters no. 2824, 2928, 3434, and 3740). There is presently a sacred mission there, consisting of making that country a vessel for the teaching of the Baal Shem Tov* and his disciples — in particular, for Chassidus* Chabad*.

Now, it depends on you whether these students become the channels and the emissaries who will disseminate the wellsprings* throughout that entire country, after having come to you. And every moment that is not fully devoted to this holy mission is to be lamented.

One may think that these young men, if they receive the proper education, will know how to guide our Sefardic* brethren, who are currently experiencing great disappointment. In my view, they stand at a crossroads. Indeed, you know their situation, both in the Holy Land and in Morocco and the neighboring countries. Now, Divine Providence has chosen four or five individuals and given them the ability to form hundreds of thousands of Chassidim*, in a relatively short time. This is a striking phenomenon.

Despite this, months and years pass. How long will such an attitude persist? Indeed, "he (Moshiach*) stands behind our wall." Obviously, there are no words to describe the great reward, spiritual and material, of one who acts as he should in this domain. All the more so, this is the means of attaining physical health.

Of course, what has just been said is not addressed only to you, and I charge you with disseminating this message to all your colleagues, the teachers and deans of the Yeshivah*. May Hashem grant that these words have their effect, commensurate with the situation. You will therefore be my emissary to activate all of this, to the greatest extent possible.

With my blessing for good health and success in what has been described,

N.B.: Your visit here for the Days of Awe* (Rosh Hashanah* and Yom Kippur*) is a good initiative, even if it is negligible compared to everything that has been said. You will provide the names and information, so that the invitation (necessary for obtaining the visa) can be sent to you. Obviously, your wife must give her consent to this trip.
