Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter from before the festival of Pesach*, in which you write that your Torah* study is not bearing fruit. You are therefore considering various possibilities regarding your future activity and provide me with details on this subject.
You say that your study is not bearing fruit. Yet our Sages* explain that "one who tells you he has made effort and that his efforts were crowned with success — believe him." This refers to your own effort, a study commensurate with your strength and capabilities. You must invest it in Torah*!
It is obvious that one who possesses great capabilities has not fulfilled his obligation when he studies Torah* as someone of ordinary means. Relative to his potential, he is not truly making effort.
A man is not qualified to testify about himself. Only the dean of the Yeshivah* or your spiritual guide (this letter is addressed to a Yeshivah* student) can establish the truth in this matter, for they know you and can determine your aptitudes, your perseverance, and your diligence.
As for the proposals you communicate to me, you should take counsel from three Chassidim* who know you and are aware of the situation in your location (see Igros Kodesh of the Rebbe Rashab*, volume 3, letter no. 698, as well as letters no. 3635, 3636, and 3794). Hashem will suggest to them the counsel that is right for you, both materially and spiritually.

שלום וברכה!
במענה על מכתבו מלפני חג הפסח, בו כותב שאינו רואה סימן ברכה בלימודו וכו' וע"כ יש לו סברות שונות בהנוגע להסתדרותו בעתיד וכותב הפרטים בזה.
והנה במ"ש שאינו רואה סימן ברכה בהלימוד, הנה ע"פ מרז"ל יגעת ומצאת תאמין, כוונה בזה יגיעה שלו, היינו לימוד באופן המתאים לכחותיו וכשרונותיו הוא יעמול וייגע בתורה, ומובן שבעל כשרונות טובים איננו יוצא בזה כשלומד כהבעל כשרונות רגילים, שהרי בערכו איננו יגע, וכיון שאין אדם מעיד על עצמו, הנה אמת בז יכול להודע מהר"י והמשפיע שלו שהרי מכירים הם אותו וכשרונותיו התמדתו ושקידתו.
בהנוגע להצעות שכותב אודותן, הנה עליו להתייעץ בז עם שלשה מאנ"ש המכירים אותו ויודעים הענינים על אתר, והשי"ת יתן להם הרעיון הנכון איך לייעצו כטוב לפניו בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.
