Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 5 Nissan*, with the request for a blessing that it contained, which I read today at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us.

You speak of your classes and your difficulties in answering questions (lit., "you have no mouth to respond"). Even if all the reasons you cite in your letter were true, it nonetheless remains that one who finds himself in circumstances beyond his control is, to be sure, exempt from acting, but cannot be considered as having acted.

Moreover, it is said that "self-love covers all faults," and the yetzer hara* (lit., "the little clever one") is cunning, as my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, emphasizes. One must therefore examine the reasons you invoke. May Hashem grant that this deficiency disappear in the future (lit., "may what is poured out not be affected by the lack" — paraphrasing a verse in Shir HaShirim*).

I received your blessing with pleasure (presumably on the occasion of the Rebbe's birthday, 11 Nissan*), and as Hashem assures us, "one who blesses is himself blessed." Together with the members of your family, you will celebrate the festival of Matzos*, which approaches for us and for all of Yisrael* for good, in a kosher* and joyous manner. You will convey good tidings of all those you mention in your letter.

במענה על מכתבו מה' ניסן עם הפ"נ המוסגר בו, הנה קראתיו היום על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע. ומ"ש בהנוגע לשיעוריו אשר אין לו פה להשיב כו', הנה אפילו את"ל שצודק הוא בכל הסיבות שפורטם במכתבו, הנה ידוע פסק תוה"ק אשר אף שאונס רחמנא פטרי', הנה כמאן דעביד לא אמרינן, ובפרט כיון שעל פשעים תכסה אהבה, וידוע הערמת הקלוגינקער כפתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הנה גם סיבות הנ"ל טעונים בדיקה, ויה"ר שעכ"פ מכאן ולהבא בל יחסר המזג.

בנועם קבלתי ברכתו וכהבטחת הקב"ה הנה כל המברך יתברך, ויחוג הוא וכל ב"ב שיחיו את חג המצות הבא עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה בכשרות ובשמחה ויבשר טובות אודות כל אלו הנזכרים במכתבו.
