Blessings and greetings,

I am responding to your letter from the end of Adar*, in which you tell me that you have completed your studies. You are therefore at a crossroads, not knowing what to do in the future. You ask my opinion.

No doubt you are animated by the desire to exert a positive influence on your surroundings, and you enjoy working with children. You should therefore choose teaching. You surely possess all the necessary knowledge for this. If you need additional training, the current practice is that one can acquire it while working. In that case, the two activities form a whole, for practical experience is the best training — immediately revealing what needs to be improved and what can be perfected.

You ask me how to exert a positive influence on the outside world and which works to use. In our era, the ignorance is considerable, even regarding the most fundamental and basic principles. One therefore cannot rely on what takes place in the street, nor even, quite often, at home. The content of the Torah*, the Prophets*, the Holy Writings*, and the abridged Shulchan Aruch* is very frequently a novelty for most young people.

The explanations that can be given on this subject, the means of arousing their interest in such studies, and above all in the Torah* way of life, are amply found in the discourses and collections of talks of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. These texts appear, in particular, in the books and publications of the Merkaz L'Inyanei Chinuch*, which have been issued monthly for close to fourteen years.

But above all, it is important to act concretely. By pursuing the effort, you will find your path and what you must do with much greater clarity. And nothing can withstand the will.

במענה על מכתב משילהי אדר, בו כותבת שגמרה את לימודי' ועומדת על פרשת דרכים בנוגע להסתדרותה בעתיד, ושואלת דעתי בזה.

כיון שבודאי רוצה היא להשפיע בסביבה המתאמת ואוהבת טפול עם ילדים, צריכה היתה להסתדר במקצוע ההוראה, ובטח הידיעות שיש לה מספיקות בכלל, ואם נחוצה להשלמה הרי רגילה וא בתקופתנו זו שמשתלמים ביחד ובבת אחת עם העבודה בפועל, ובאמת ענין אחד מסייע להשני, כי אין לך לימוד יותר טוב מאשר נסיון בפועל, המגלה על אתר את הצריך תיקון ואת האפשרי לשפר.

בנוגע לשאלתה איך להפשיע בחוץ ובאיזה חומר להשתמש, הרי בזמננו זה שרבה כ"[כ] העם הארצות אפי' בלימודי היסודות והתחלתם ואין לסמוך על הרחוב ואפילו לא על הבית לפעמים קרובות, הנה גם לימוד הענינים המובאים בתורה נביאים וכתובים בקיצור שולחן ערוך וכיוצא בה, חידוש וחדש הוא לרב הנוער, והסברה בזה והאופנים לרבות החשק שלהם ללימודים אלה וביחוד לאורחות חיים על פי הורה, נמצא די ויותר בשיחות ולקוטי דברורם של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, שכבר נמצאים בדפוס ובהירחונים של המרכז לעניני חנוך המופיעים מדי חדש בחדשו זה כארבע עשרה שנה ועוד ועוד, והעיקר בכל הנ"ל להתחיל בעבודה בפועל, ובמשך העבודה תראה את דרכה ואופן עבודתה ברורים יותר ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון.
