Greetings and blessings,

The essential point is the following: It appears that in everything you cite, you base yourself on your own perception. Now, many are those who equate this perception with personal will. But in practice, what one wants is not always identical to what one understands.

These few lines will introduce, in this instance, only self-evident truths. Yet what we are dealing with here is what our Sages* call a Divine mission — in this case, the education of Jewish children. I must therefore repeat all of this, in the hope that it will have an effect.

It is obvious, and practice proves it, that everyone possesses self-love and that this sentiment shapes one's will accordingly. Now, such a will distorts one's reasoning. The person who experiences it is incapable of analyzing objectively and arriving at the correct conclusion. Will diverts a person and his intellect even more than bribery.

In such a case, there is only one solution: one must not rely on one's own will, nor on one's perception, nor even on one's own intellect — including for what appears to be a necessity, an obvious truth, an expression of the purest holiness*, devoid of personal interest. Our Sages say, indeed, that no one can vouch for himself as being righteous. The remedy, in this matter, is therefore the following: one must listen to what others say.

What has been said applies to every school, whatever it may be, but how much more so for one that bears the name of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. It is clear that this name must be taken into account.

I am therefore particularly surprised and astonished by such a situation. Who can assume such a responsibility and declare: "I say that..." when all the other members of the administration hold a divergent view? Yet instead of all this, you followed only your own perception, without revealing your intentions to anyone — for you well knew that no one would agree with you. And you were aware that the responsibility, in this domain, would be borne by the schools of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us — that reproaches would subsequently be directed at them, that it would fall to the directors of these schools to justify your conduct and bear the harm it would cause, Heaven forbid.

It is indispensable that in the future you cease adopting such an attitude — acting solely because "I say that," "I wish that," as though everyone else is of no importance to you. You will therefore adopt the following rule of conduct: you will reflect, even for a few moments, upon what the holy Tanya* states at the beginning of chapter 41: "One must constantly remember what is the beginning of the service of Hashem, its essential aspect, and its root... One must first arouse one's natural fear... For Hashem stands before him... He examines the innards and the heart to know if one serves Him properly."

If you apply all of this, I am certain that you will no longer adopt the same attitude and that success will be greater. All unfortunate events will be averted. Gradually, the behavior characteristic of the world of Tohu* will disappear and that of Tikkun* will appear. If, to some extent, you truly value my opinion, please let me know by return mail that you have decided to modify your attitude.

These days, belonging to the month of redemption* and miracles, are propitious for freeing oneself from all of this. And everything depends solely on your will. May Hashem grant that you not deceive yourself. Thus, you will see the truth as it is and will immediately modify what must be changed.

I add that it is likely that "the little clever one" — as my father-in-law, the Rebbe, used to call the evil inclination* — will act cunningly toward you and tell you that your accomplishments are worthless, since you cannot find favor in the eyes of your friends, all of whom hold divergent opinions. I therefore offer you, from the outset, my own response to this objection, though it has been well known for a long time already. It is as follows:

One does not flee from before Hashem. Nor does one escape from before our holy masters, whose merit protects us. They chose a Chassid*, conferred upon him and upon the members of his family the merit and the success of receiving an enviable portion and of carrying out fruitful work. They consider, for their part, that there is indeed merit and success here. It matters little whether this Chassid is himself aware of it or has not yet understood.

It is therefore indispensable that you fulfill this mission. It is equally obvious that if you do so in the manner desired by our masters, you will know success — including in what concerns you personally, together with the members of your family. Nevertheless, free choice is granted to each person, and at least for a time, you can therefore choose not to obey our masters, Heaven forbid — to go against their will and not fulfill this mission. However, in the end, "none of us shall be cast away," and our holy masters will obtain what they desired, in kindness and mercy.

The Festival of Matzos* approaches, for us and for all Israel, for the good. The essential Mitzvah* of the first night consists of consuming "the food of faith*" and "the food of healing," which will fully exert its effect upon each one of us. This effect will extend throughout the entire year, as Chassidus* explains — in particular, the beginning of the Shaar HaEmunah*. Our Sages say, indeed, that "Chavakuk* came and formulated the Torah in a single principle, as it is stated: 'The righteous lives by his faith.'"

With my blessing for a kosher* and joyous Pesach* festival, and for giving, by return mail, good news of all that has been said,
