To the eminent Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,
of extensive knowledge,
Rav Yosef Baruch (the Rav Y. B. Blumenfeld; see letters no. 1953, 3649, and 3701 regarding him),
Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter of the 25th of Adar*. I am surprised that since then you have given me no news and have not confirmed that you are well settled, materially and spiritually.
In these days, one brings one redemption* close to another (i.e., from Purim* to Pesach*). I know that you greatly appreciate Rashi's* commentary, and you surely know his wondrous explanation (see Likkutei Sichos*, vol. 16, p. 344) stated in Tractate Taanis 29a. He says that "Purim and Pesach were miraculous days for Israel," thereby establishing a link between these two festivals, which bear the name of Adar — the month during which the first and last redeemer (Moshe Rabbeinu*) was born and fully revealed himself — the redeemer from Egypt, and "as in the days... (of your departure from Egypt), I will show you wonders" — the redeemer of the future redemption.
On Purim, in Adar, "they fulfilled what they had previously undertaken" (at the giving of the Torah). The objection that could have been raised against the giving of the Torah (the fact that it was given under coercion) was then removed. The Torah can therefore unify the deep dimension of the Jewish soul — which always remains faithful to Hashem — with its external aspect, as the Maharal* explains, based on the teaching of the Rambam*, Laws of Divorce, end of chapter 2.
It is in this manner that the unity between the hidden teaching of the Torah and its revealed dimension will be demonstrated, that the concealed aspect of the Divine and His revealed side will be united. This will then be the complete and true redemption, when "all will know Me, from the smallest to the greatest," according to the Shaar HaEmunah*, from chapter 16 onward.
With my blessing for a kosher* and joyous Pesach festival,
M. Schneerson
