Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter from the eve of Rosh Chodesh* Nissan, together with what it contained.

You ask me whether you should postpone the first haircut of your son (until Lag BaOmer*; see letter no. 3438 on this subject). I am surprised by your question. Why would you do so? The Jewish custom is that one gives the first haircut when the child is three years old. This is therefore the best and most propitious time. And who knows whether, in scheduling it for another date, you will choose a time equally favorable?

Granted, the Be'er Heitev*, in Orach Chaim*, chapter 531, paragraph 7, somewhat contradicts what has been said and states that it is permitted to wait. Nevertheless, according to him, this is so only for a reason introduced by the Torah.

You mention sending our publications to all the Rabbanim*. It seems that this initiative would not be of great interest, for they receive numerous publications and do not even read them. If there is a way to verify who, on your list, is genuinely interested in the new releases of Kehot* publications — and especially if these are Rabbanim who exert a genuine influence — one can consider adopting this practice and establishing a program to determine to whom to make such a mailing and what it should include.

What was enclosed (in Rav Hecht's letter) for the Pesach* Tzedakah* was transmitted to its destination. You will be informed directly.

You have surely received my previous letter, together with what it contained.

במענה על מכתבו מער"ח ניסן עם המוסגר בו.

מ"ש בנוגע להתספורת של בנו שי' אם לדחותה, הרי לפלא הדבר למה לעשות ככה, כיון שמנהג ישרא לעשות התספורת ביום מלאת שלש שנים ה"ז השעה טובה ומוצלחת, ומי יודע עד מה אם ביום אחר שרוצים לעשותו וועט מען צוטרעפין לעת רצון כזו, ואף שלכאורה קצת סתירה לזה ממ"ש בבאר היטב לאו"ח סי' תקל"[א] ס"ק ז' דמותר להשהות כו' הרי שם טעם דע"פ תורה.

מ"ש אודות שילוח הנדפסים לרבנים כו', הנה לשלוח לכולם לכאורה לא תהי' בזה תועלת כ"כ כין שמתקבלים כמה מיני דפוס שגם אין קוראים אותםה, ואם יש אפשריות לברר מי מהנמצאים ברשימתו מעונינים בענינים הנ"ל היו"ל ע"י קה"ת וכיו"ב, והעיקר אם משפיעים ג"כ בהנוגע לפועל, אזי יש מקום להתענין ולעבד תכנית - פראגראם - למי לשלוח ומאיזה סוג.

המוסגר בהנוגע למעות חטים נמסר למטרתם ויודיעוהו ישר.
