To the distinguished Rav* and learned Chassid*,

Rav N. Nemanov*[1],

I greet you and bless you,

A) You have surely received in due time my letter of 16 Tevet*, to which the fascicle published for 19 Kislev* was attached. I am surprised that you have not confirmed this. We also conveyed our greetings to you through the young men we dispatched[2]. They have no doubt also given you a copy of the series of Chassidic* discourses delivered this year. Please confirm this.

B) The amount that has been in your city for some time, for the Ma'amad*[3] or for the purchase of letters in the Sefer Torah*[4], will be handed to the publications manager* if Rav D.*[5] leaves, or to Rav D.* himself if he remains. Let me know the situation so that I may provide the corresponding amount here.

Please tell Rav B. Gorod.*[6] to reduce the amount I asked him to send to Poking*[7] for publications by whatever you give him yourself, as I have just explained.

The receipts for the Ma'amad* according to the list you sent me will be dispatched today.

C) The Chassidic* discourses in Hebrew* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe* Shlita*, are currently in press. The Yiddish* texts and the Sefer HaSichot* have been printed in Poking*. I will write to have several copies sent to you for the Yeshiva*[8] as you requested, provided that a portion of their cost be sent to the Keren HaMatzot*[9] of the Merkaz LeInyonei Chinuch* and the remainder paid by you, as you state in your letter.

D) I do not know what the reason is or who is responsible, but it seems that contributions to the Ma'amad* have ceased in your country. These contributions could have been obtained with the necessary effort. When one is geographically distant, it is difficult to propose solutions to remedy this situation, especially since I do not know the people responsible for collecting it or their personal circumstances.

You, however, know them and are on the spot. It would be good and indeed necessary for you to take charge of this problem, so that the state of the Ma'amad* improves and becomes satisfactory.

You know my position, which is constant: the circle of Ma'amad* participants must be broadened as widely as possible and must not be limited solely to Yeshiva* alumni. For someone like you, there is doubtless no need to say more.

My father-in-law, the Rebbe* Shlita*, has charged me with Beth Rivkah* and publications. He exerts great effort, dedicating all his strength to this, well beyond what people know.

The matter of imprisonment has been raised here, and so I will conclude by citing the words of our Sages* in tractate Taanit* 29b, as codified in Halacha*, that a Jew* who must appear in judgment in a dispute against a non-Jew* should endeavor to have the case heard in Adar*, the month of good omen.

According to one opinion, cited in tractate Sotah* 12b, Moshe* was born in Adar Rishon*. And Chassidut* explains that only submission is of good omen for a Jew*, as the Likkutei Torah* states at the beginning of Parshat Haazinu*.

במענה על מכתבו מט"ז טבת

א) בטח קיבל בעתו מכתבי מט"ז טבת בצירוף הקונט' ליט"כ (ולפלא שלא אישר קבלתם ע"ע), וכן הפ"ש ע"י שלוחינו האברכים שיחיו, ובודאי מסרו לו ג"כ העקז' מההמשך דשנה זו ויאשר זה.

ב) הנמצא - במחנו מלפנים - של נפנה ושל אותיות הס"ת ימסרו למי שיהי' שם אחראי בעד הדפסה (אם ידע הר"ד משם) או לר"ד (אם נשאר הוא שם). ויודיעני, ואז אכניס תמורתם. ומטובו לאמר להר"ב שי' גאראד' שינכה מהסכום שבקשתיו לשלוח על ההדפסה לפאקינג, את הסכום שימסר שם ע"י כת"ר מהנ"ל. קבלות נפנה ע"פ רשימתו - נשלחים לו היום.

ג) מאמרי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א (בלה"ק) נמצאים עתה בדפוס. המאמרים שבאידית וס' השיחות נדפסו בפאקינג ואכתוב שישלחו כמה עקז' לכת"ר בעד הישיבה כבקשתו. ובתנאי אשר חלק ממחירם נשלם מקרן המצות של המל"ח וחלק תשלמו אתם.

וכמו שכתב במכתבו עד"ז.

ד) איני יודע מאיזה סבה ומי האשם, אבל כנראה שאין נפנה, במדינתו עתה, עומד במצב שצ"ל עומד ושבטח הי' יכול להיות עומד בהשתדלות הראוי'. וא"א מרחוק במקום לדעת על בוריו אופני התיקון בזה, בפרט שאיני מכיר כ"כ בטיב האנשים שצריך להעסיקם בזה ומצבם הפרטי. ובאשר שכת"ר יודע אותם ונמצא על אתר נכון ואולי גם מוכרח שישתדל באופן המתאים בהטבת מצב נפנה ושיכלולו ככל האפשריות. וידועה בזה השקפתי מאז שצריך להרחיב חוג המשתתפים בנפנה ולא להצטמצם בתמימים וכיו"ב בלבד. והאריכות בכ"ז לדכוותי' אך למותר.

...עלי הטיל כ"ק מו"ח אד"ש עניני ב"ר והדפסה... כ"ק מו"ח אד"ש משתדל ומתעסק בכ"ז, והרבה יותר מכפי שמשערים הבריות.

...נשמע ע"ד המאסר... ואסיים במרז"ל (תענית כט, ב, והובא באחרונים להלכה למעשה) בר ישראל דאית לי' דינא בהדי נכרי... לימצי נפשי' באדר דבריא מזלי'. ובסוטה (יב, ב) ולחד מ"ד באדר ראשון נולד משה. וידוע הפי' בדא"ח דמזלי' של ישראל הוא האין (לקו"ת ר"פ האזינו ועוד).
