To the eminent Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem
and devotes himself to communal needs,
Rav Ephraim Eliezer HaKohen (the Rav E. E. Yalles, of Philadelphia; see letter no. 2986 regarding him),
Greetings and blessings,
I have just received your letter from the eve of Shabbos Parshas HaChodesh*. You mention the difference in formulation between the end of chapter 11 and the end of chapter 35 of the holy Tanya*. Consult, on this subject, the list of corrections established on the basis of the early editions, according to which one should read, at the end of chapter 11: "Whenever ten people are gathered" (the Divine Presence is revealed). See also the Tanya, page 136a, and the Torah Or*, page 54c.
I am enclosing what has recently been published. This will surely interest you, and without a doubt, you will make its content available to as many people as possible, as is the merit and the obligation of the Rav (literally, "the master of the place"). The Alter Rebbe* explains that the Rav is indeed the master of everything pertaining to a place.
This merit is yours, and you therefore possess, without a doubt, the necessary forces to reveal it. Everything depends solely on the actual use that is made of this force — on the revelation of this hidden potential.
I shall conclude as I began, by recalling the Yerushalmi* Megillah, chapter 3, paragraph 6, according to which no interruption should be made between Parshas Parah and Parshas HaChodesh (which are always read on two consecutive Shabbosos). One cites, in this connection, the fact that the same applies to the third and fourth cups of the Seder* night, the time of our freedom.
Indeed, such an interruption is, in a certain sense, forbidden, and it was explained at the Chassidic gathering* of this Shabbos that this accords with the teaching of our Sages in Tractate Sanhedrin 97b, according to which "if Israel attains Teshuvah*, they will be redeemed." The Rambam* specifies this in his Laws of Teshuvah, chapter 7, paragraph 5, adding: "They will be redeemed immediately." The Alter Rebbe, author of the Tanya and Decisor of the hidden dimension of the Torah, author of the Shulchan Aruch* and Decisor of the revealed dimension of the Torah, cites this in his Iggeres HaTeshuvah*, chapter 11: "They will be immediately redeemed."
With my blessing,
