Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of the day of the Hilulah* (the 10th of Shevat*) of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. I read it at his holy resting place.

I read with pleasure that you devote yourself with ardor to your studies — to the revealed dimension of the Torah and to Chassidus*. No doubt you will put into practice, in this matter, the directive of our Sages* that "one ascends in matters of holiness*" (by continuing to intensify this study).

Likewise, you are surely aware of what I wrote to the administration of Toras Emes* (the Lubavitch* Yeshivah* of Yerushalayim*). The young men, and likewise certain boys, must use their abilities to exert a positive influence on others, through their counsel and through their conduct. First of all, this is indispensable for obtaining the help of Hashem that every person needs, as the Alter Rebbe* states at the beginning of his Torah Or*, regarding the verse: "Tzedakah* elevates a people." Furthermore, quite often in the present era, this can be useful in order to earn one's livelihood* when the time comes.

No doubt you are acting in this direction with ardor, and you are influencing your friends to do the same.

With my blessing that you give me good news of all this, and also of what you write in your request for a blessing,

במענה על מכתבו מיום ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אשר קראתיו על הציון שלו הק'.

נהניתי לקרות בו אשר שוקד בלימודים בלימוד תורת הנגלה ובלימוד תורת החסידות, ובודאי יקיים בזה פסק רז"ל דמעלין בקדש.

כן בטח ידוע לו ממה שכתבתי להנהלת תורת אמת, אשר על האברכים (וגם חלק מהבחורים) לנצל כשרונותיהם בהשפעה על הזולת ע"י הוראה והנהגה, ומלבד שמוכרח הדבר בשביל סייעתא דשמיא שכל אחד זקוק לזה, וכידוע מ"ש רבנו הזקן בתחלת ספרו תורה אור עה"פ וצדקה תרומם גוי, הרי בימינו אלה לפעמים תכופות יועיל זה גם לפרנסה במשך הזמן, ובודאי עושה בזה בחפץ לב ומשפיע גם על חבריו בכגון דא.
