may it be restored and rebuilt,

may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter of the 23rd of Shevat* and, in the meantime, you have surely received mine, which responded to your previous correspondence.

A) Two days ago, Mr. Yitzchak Korn, one of the principal directors of the settlement* movement (of villages in Eretz Yisrael*), visited me. He informed me of the assistance he has rendered to the Kfar* (Kfar Chabad*). He undertook a commitment that he would continue to do so in the future, to the full extent of his means and making full use of them.

It would be advisable for you to meet with him upon his return to the Holy Land. In the course of your conversation, he will surely have occasion to reiterate his promise to you. It will therefore be easier to call upon him subsequently, when the need arises.

B) Following this coming Shabbos*, the president of the rabbinical federation of the United States, Rav* David Hollander, and Rav Tzvi Shechter, will fly from here to the Holy Land, where they will represent this federation. This federation, which numbers more than five hundred members, comprises Orthodox rabbis, most of whom are young and born in the United States. Both of them plan to spend approximately two weeks in the Holy Land, where they will conduct an assessment of the religious situation and attempt to draw hearts closer.

The president of this federation already made a similar visit last year.

It would be particularly judicious — in response to their own request — for them to visit the Yeshivah* of Lod, the Kfar*, and other Lubavitch* institutions. In my opinion, although we did not discuss it, it would be beneficial for them to also see the vocational school, especially since, for the time being, it is practically unique in the Holy Land. They will therefore appreciate it particularly.

Furthermore, they wish to meet representatives of several parties and governmental bodies. This will determine how they approach various Lubavitch projects and, more generally, their relationship with this movement. It would therefore be good to introduce them to Mr. Shazar, to whom I am writing directly on this matter.

To the extent possible, you yourselves will introduce them to the circles that are more to the right. Obviously, you may tell them that you are doing so at my request. I do not wish to interfere in the discussions they will have with these individuals. However, for various reasons, it is necessary that they receive a warm welcome.

I have good hope that, in the long run, good will result from this for religious matters in the Holy Land and also for those of the United States. I am alluding to all circles alike, including the Neturei Karta* and Rav Soloveitchik, shlita*.

C) These Rabbanim* have noted the address of the Chabad association in Tel Aviv, but one should not wait for them to take the initiative to come see you. It will surely be easy to determine where they are staying, and you will therefore contact them as soon as possible.

I await your good news — detailed news concerning everything that has been said above. I thank you in advance.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבם מכ"ג שבט, ובודאי בינתים קבלו מכתבי, מענה על מכתביהם הקודמים.

...לפני יומים ביקר אותי מר יצחק שי' קארן, מראשי מנהלי תנועת המושבים, וסיפר לי מהסיוע שלו - בעבר - בעניני הכפר, והבטיח ג"כ בנוגע להבא, כפי יכולתו, וככל יכולתו, ומהנכון הי' שיתראו עמדו - בחזירתו לאה"ק ת"ו, ובמשך השיחה בודאי תהי' הזדמנות שיכפול לפניהם הבטחותיו עוה"פ, ובמילא יהי' נקל יותר לנצל אותן בעת הצורך.

ח) במוצש"ק הבע"ל טסים מכאן לאה"ק ת"ו יו"ר הסתדרות הרבנים דארצוה"ב הרב דוד שי' האלענדער והרב צבי שי' שעכטער, בתור באי כח הסתדרות הרבנים דכאן (שהוא איגוד רבנים אורטודוכסים, רובם צעירים ילידי אמעריקא המונה יותר מחמש מאות חברים). לפי השערתם ישהו באה"ק ת"ו כשבועיים - על מנת לתהות על מצב הענינים הדתיים לקרב הלבבות וכו'. והוא ע"ד הביקור דאשתקד של היו"ר (דהסתדרות הרבנים הנ"ל) דאשתקד. ומהנכון ביותר, וגם בקשוני עד"ז - שיבקרו את הישיבה דלוד, את הכפר, וכיו"ב מעניני ליובאוויטש... ולפי השערתי, אף שלא דברתי עד"ז הנה ענין הבית ספר למלאכה, ובפרט שלע"ע הוא כמעט היחידי באה"ק ת"ו, ימצא חן בעיניהם ביותר.

נוסף על זה, הרי מכיון שרוצים הם להתראות עם ב"כ כמה מפלגות ומשרדים, וזה ישפיע על היחס שלהם לכמה ענינים וקירוב בכלל לליובאוויטש, טוב שיכירו אותם עם מר שז"ר שי' (אף שכותב הנני לו בפ"ע עד"ז), ובמדה האפשרית יהיו הם המכירים את הנ"ל גם עם החוגים הקיצונים שמימין, ומובן שברשותם לאמר שזהו נעשה ע"פ בקשתי "שאף שאינני רוצה להשפיע על יחסם להבעיות אודותם ידברו עם החוגים הנ"ל, אבל מכמה טעמים טוב ונחוץ שיקבלום בספ"י, ובמשך הזמן תקותי חזקה שתהי' עי"ז טובה הן בהנוגע לענינים הדתיים באה"ק ת"ו והן בנוגע לענינים הדתיים בארצוה"ב". וכוונתי בחוגים הנ"ל - אפילו נטורי קרתא, הרב סולוביציק שליט"א, וכיו"ב.

ט) הנ"ל רשמו את הכתבת של אגו"ח בתל אביב. ואין כדאי לחכות עד שיחפשו אותם... וכיון שבטח בקל יהי' להוודע מקום המצאם, כדאי לבוא עם הנ"ל בקישור בהקדם. ואחכה לבשו"ט וגם מפורטות בכל הנ"ל, ות"ח מראש.
