Igrot Kodesh · Letter 3315 — Chinuch
Volume 10 · Letter 352
B"H,
1st day of Rosh Chodesh* Adar 5715,
Brooklyn,
I greet you and bless you,
I have duly received your request for blessing, as well as the four requests from your children. These were read at a propitious moment at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us.
I respond to your question. You ask me whether you should pray together with the congregation on Shabbos*, in order to arrive home at the same time as the members of your family, or whether you may lengthen your prayer.
I am surprised that you are in doubt on this subject. The answer to this question was already given in a letter of the Rebbe Rashab*, printed in the third addendum to the Kuntres Eitz HaChaim*, paragraph 4.
If during the luminous days (i.e., the era of the Rebbe Rashab) and outside of Eretz Yisrael*, it was so (that it was positive to lengthen one's prayer), how much more so is this the case in the intense darkness of our generation and in the palace of the King (in the Holy Land*).
With my blessing,
