B"H,

Brooklyn,
I greet you and bless you,
To someone like you, it is surely unnecessary to explain at length how much our holy masters — and in particular my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us — showed their interest in Chassidic farbrengens* (see Letter #3357, which follows this one). Numerous letters and various writings attest to this.
One of the purposes of such gatherings is also to attract those who, for the present, are still on the outside, so that they adopt the practices and customs of Chassidus*, and then study its teachings. Naturally, one must address such people in terms suited to their current situation, and not according to Chabad* terminology, which might repel them or, at the very least, not attract them.
This concerns not only speech, but also — and even more so — concrete action. Already in the previous generation, the leaders of the Chassidim* and the elders needed to be careful in this regard, since once they themselves maintained the proper demeanor, that of the other Chassidim* mattered less. But at the present time, all the Chassidim* are observed closely (literally, "with seven eyes") — in general, and those of Lubavitch* in particular. Everyone, including those under sixty or even under fifty years of age, must also adopt the conduct that will draw closer those who are on the outside, and not the opposite.
I ask you, for your part, to do everything in your power to influence those who participate in these gatherings, so that they adopt a friendly and peaceful attitude — not only in a deep sense, a point for which they are not at fault, but also outwardly, in the manner they express themselves before others. I am convinced that each person will sincerely put my request into practice.
May Hashem grant that success come soon, and that the number of participants multiply — including among those who are not Chassidim*.
With my blessing and in expectation of your good tidings,
