I greet you and bless you,

I have finally received your letter of January 31, which followed a long silence. No doubt there has been disseminated among the Chassidim* and students of the Yeshivah* what my father-in-law, the Rebbe, said regarding the "suffering of the Chassidim*" (see Letter #713). He remarks, indeed, that some write (to the Rebbe) only when pain and suffering occur, which Hashem should protect us from. I am surprised to see that you, too, wish to belong to this category.

It was desired that you inform us that a Torah* class had been established. However, unfortunately it was only possible to obtain this at the cost of a painful event. You therefore wrote to inform me of this event, and it is on this occasion that you mention the classes.

It would have been far better for everyone if the Chassidim* had accustomed themselves to writing also about joyous events. In this way, the habit would have become second nature and, quite naturally, one would have felt an evolution in this matter. One would have seen joys multiply. You should also consult on this subject the Zohar*, Volume 2, page 184b, at the paragraph beginning "Come and see."

May Hashem grant that you be a good emissary* to establish this beneficial practice, not only for yourself but also for all those around you.

I am pleased with what you tell me about the classes. No doubt the participants are endeavoring to bring other people to attend. It is undoubtedly unnecessary to tell you that you should, from time to time, discuss and comment on matters relating to Chassidus*, its practices, and its customs.

May Hashem grant you success with your students and with those who receive your teaching.

You ask me about the tithe* that you set aside — and no doubt it is, in fact, a little more than this amount, for our Sages say that one does not make a precise accounting regarding Tzedakah*. You may indeed deduct from this tithe* the contributions to the collections (during the Rebbe's Chassidic farbrengen*) of 10 Shevat, Purim*, and 12 Tammuz.

לאחר שתיקתו הכי ארוכה, הנה סו"ס נתקבל מכתבו /1;31amp&, ובודאי נתפרסמו בתוככי התמימים וגם אנ"ש דברי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בעל ההילולא, בהנוגע צו "צער חסידים", וביאר את דבריו, שישנם כאלו שבאים בכתובים רק, ר"ל, כאשר אירע איזה צער ועגמ"נ ח"ו, עכ"ל. ותמי' שכנראה גם הוא רצונו להכנס בסוג זה. ובמילא כשרצו שיודיע ע"ד קביעות שיעור - לא הי' כביכול אופן אחר אלא שיהי' ענין של עגמ"נ, ר"ל, ובמילא שולח מכתב ובמילא ג"כ מודיע ע"ד שיעורים. והרי טוב טוב הי' לכל הצדדים, אם היו אנ"ש מתרגלים לכתוב ולהודיע על כל ענין של שמחה, ובמילא הי' הרגל נעשה טבע, שגם בדרכי הטבע יהי' נרגש שינוי בכיוון זה, שתתרבה השמחה בעניניהם. ועיין ג"כ זהר חלק ב' קפ"ד ע"ב ד"ה תא חזי . ויה"ר שיהי' שליח טוב להחדיר מנהג זה הטוב, לא רק בהנוגע לעצמו אלא לכל סביבתו...

נהניתי ממ"ש אודות השיעורים. ובודאי משתדלים כל המשתתפים להמשיך עוד אנשים כאו"א לשיעור הוא, ובודאי למותר לעוררו שידבר ויבאר מזמן לזמן גם ע"ד דעם ארום פון חסידות הדרכותי' ומנהגי'. והשי"ת יצליחו בתלמידיו ובמושפעיו.

בשאלתו ע"ד המעשר שמפריש (ובודאי מפריש מעט יותר ממעשר - וכידוע מרז"ל שאין לדקדק בצדקה), הנה יכול לתת מזה גם הפרשות יו"ד שבט, פורים, י"ב תמוז וכו'.
