To the Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav* Yehoshua Schneur Zalman (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

It is no doubt unnecessary to remind you that in addition to what will be published in the newspapers — if possible in the common language — you must utilize, in the fitting manner and with the necessary publicity, the day of the Hilulah* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, leader of Yisrael*, whose merit protects us. I await good news in this matter, which you will detail for me.

I send you my blessing that the merit of the one whose Hilulah* we commemorate protect each of the Chassidim* scattered throughout the entire world, so that all may carry out the mission entrusted to them here below, in good health, in material abundance, and with broadness of spirit.

I have just received your letter of the 27th of Teves*. Concerning the school, the day must begin, in all classes, with sacred studies (see letter no. 1365), as our Sages* say regarding the verse, "From the first of your doughs... you shall make a contribution for Hashem*."

One must also strive, to the fullest extent possible, that the time devoted to sacred studies not be less than that of secular studies. It would even be preferable (that it be greater).

... בודאי למותר לעוררם לנצל באופן המתאים ובפרסום במרץ המתאים נוסף על מה שיודפס בעתונים ומה טוב גם בשפה המדוברת, את יום ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע נשיא ישראל, ואחכה לבשו"ט ובפרטיות גם בזה.

בברכה שזכות בעל ההילולא יגן על כל או"א מאנ"ש המפוזרים בכל קצוי תבל למלאות שליחותם בעלמא דין מתוך בריאות הנכונה פרנסה בהרחבה והרחבת הדעת.

עתה נתקבל מכתבו מכ"ז טבת: בהנוגע לביה"ס צ"ל התחלת הלימודים בכל הכיתות בלימודי קודש, וכידוע דרז"ל ראשית עריסותיכם גו'. כן להשתדל ככל האפשרי שמספר שעות לימודי קודש יהיו עכ"פ לא פחות מלימודי חול, ומה טוב כו'.
