To the Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav* David (see note 1),
Greetings and blessings,
I received with pleasure your letter of the 8th of Teves*, which followed a long silence. May Hashem* cause the following proverb of the Rebbe Maharash* to apply to the improvement of the situation of the youth group you describe to me: "The good is good, but is the better not better?"
The time has finally come for the Chassidim*, as well as for the women and girls of Chabad*, to expect of themselves and of their surroundings that it be so. Indeed, one can observe that Hashem* grants success transcending the ways of nature. Nevertheless, one has lost one's composure and therefore forges small receptacles.
Consequently, the Divine blessing remains in waiting, until one becomes aware and puts into practice what is written (Tehillim* 81:11): "Open wide your mouth." Then the conclusion of that same verse is also fulfilled: "And I shall fill it" — precisely after this widening (i.e., when the receptacle is already wide).
May Hashem* cause the widening to be such that the Torah* itself accords it that title, and that it not be determined merely by the limitations of men.

שלום וברכה! לאחרי שתיקתו הארוכה נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מח' טבת, ויה"ר שהטבת המצב בקבוצת הנוער שכותב יקוים בו פתגם כ"ק אדמו"ר מוהר"ש, צי דען אז גוט איז גוט איז בעסער ניט בעסער, וכבר הגיע הזמן שהחסידים ואפילו נשי ובנות חב"ד זאלען זיך פארגינען לדרוש מעצמן וכן מהסביבה, כי הרי רואים במוחש איך שמשפיעים מלמעלה הצלחה למעלה מדרך הטבע אלא מפני שנתמעטו הלבבות מכינים רק כלים קטנים ובמילא ההשפעה מלמעלה מחכה עד שיתעוררו ויקיימו הכתוב הרחב פיך שאז יקוים סוף הפסוק ואמלאהו גם לאחר ההרחבה, ויה"ר שתהי' הרחבה שגם התורה תקרא לזה הרחבה ולא רק עפ"י מדידת בשר ודם...
