To the distinguished Chassid*, fearing Hashem, Rav D. Bravman[1],

I greet and bless you,

I reply to your letters, though some of these replies have certainly already reached you through Rav Ch. M.[2]:

A) Rav B. G.[3] has surely already sent you the instructions concerning the introduction and printing of the Shulchan Aruch*. Here they are. It will be necessary to inscribe therein the designation: 'Third Sanctuary*[4], Second Gate*[5]' and to remove the addenda of the Tzemach Tzedek*.

I also transmitted to him a reproduction of the manuscript of a responsum by the Alter Rebbe* on a question posed to him regarding the lung[6]. You will have it printed in the Shulchan Aruch*.

It will comprise three volumes. The paper and binding shall be of the highest quality. I no longer have a copy of the introduction and you will kindly send me one. The title page and introduction shall be printed last, though they appear at the beginning of the book, as modifications may still occur.

B) All the books of the Mitteler Rebbe*[7] bear the designation: 'Fourth Sanctuary*[7], First Gate*[8].' This applies also to Sha'arei Ora*, Sha'ar HaEmunah*, and Sha'ar HaYichud*[9]. You will of course date the preface of Ateret Rosh* as 5707 and not 5708.

C) If you have lost the design for the title page of Sha'arei Ora*, you may take that of Ateret Rosh* or of Sha'ar HaEmunah*.

D) I have asked Rav B. G.[3] to send you the necessary sums[10]. If you know of another way to have them reach you, let me know and I will arrange it.

E) When will the books arrive here? Volume one of the Sifraynu* is exhausted here. We had relied on what you were to print and we have still received nothing.

We have just received two Tanya* and one Sha'arei Ora* that Rav B. G.[3] brought when coming here — and nothing else! The shipment must be made as quickly as possible, at minimum one hundred copies of volume one of the Sifraynu* and one hundred Tanya*.

F) If you can sell the Tanya* in your region at the price of a half mark[10], you will make a new printing of one thousand copies, with all the corrections that can be made, as you have written, and you will then sell the old copies in your region.

G) Take with you the Sefer HaMaamarim*, the Sefer HaSichos*, and the Poke'ach Ivrim* that are already printed, according to what you say. For now, send here only ten copies of each. You will sell the rest in your region or in Paris.

The Sefer HaMaamarim* and the Sefer HaSichos* will be sold at sixty cents each, and in Paris, seventy-five. The Poke'ach Ivrim* will cost fifteen cents, and in Paris, twenty. You may give a commission to sellers or to those who purchase in large quantities, up to 30%.

H) I have heard that a few other Sichos* have been published and sold at a profit. Please send us four or five copies for our library. Perhaps those who handled this matter will be able to sell and distribute what has just been printed. Please contact them, as they appear to have connections in the matter. I leave this to your judgment.

I) It seems I have already asked you in writing to print also the Torah Or*, the Likkutei Torah*, the halachic decisions of the Tzemach Tzedek*, as well as the Sha'ar HaEmunah* and the Sha'ar HaYichud*. You will produce five hundred copies. Tell me whether you have a copy, and if so, from which edition. If possible, obtain an estimate for each of these books.

J) The Tanya* fascicle[11] has not yet been published due to my numerous occupations. I will send you a copy of all the other publications, as you requested. You will indicate after how long you received them. You will also confirm having received the enclosed letter.

במענה על מכתביו, אף שבודאי קיבל כבר מענה על מקצתם ע"י הררש"מ שי',

א) בנוגע להשו"ע בטח כבר הגיעו מהררב"ג נוסח ההקדמה וההוראות בהדפסת השער. וצ"ל: היכל שלישי שער שני. וצריך להשמיט ההוספות מהצ"צ. כן מסרתי ע"י הנ"ל פוטוגרפיא מגכתי"ק אדה"ז משו"ת ע"ד ריאה להדפיס בהנ"ל. וצ"ל נייר וכריכה (בג' כרכים) היותר מהודרים. מההקדמה לא נשארה אצלי העתקה ובבקשה לשלוח לי קופיא ממנה. השער וההקדמה ידפיס לבסוף (בזמן ולא במקום כמובן) כי אפשר שיהיו איזה שינוים בזה.

ב) כל שערי אדהאמצ"ע נכללים ב"היכל רביעי שער ראשון" וגם ש"א ושהא"מ ושה"י בכלל. בהקדמת עט"ר כמובן צ"ל תש"ז ולא תש"ח.

ג) ציור שער הש"א אם נאבד יכול לקחת זה של עט"ר או שער האמונה.

ד) בקשתי את הררב"ג לשלוח לו תרמכן ככל הנצרך. אם יודע עוד איזה דרך בזה ע"י מי שהוא יודיעני ואשתדל לסדר.

ה) מתי יגיעו ספרים לכאן? ספרנו ח"א אזל כאן לגמרי וסמכנו על הדפסתו ואין כלום. וע"ע קבלנו: שני תניא'ת ושערי אורה אחד שהביאם הרב"ג בנסעו לכאן ותו לא מידי! וצריך למהר בשילוח לכאן עכ"פ ת"ק ספרנו ח"א ות"ק תניא'ת.

ו) אם יוכל למכור התניא'ת באיזורים בחצי תרמכן כל אחד, ידפיס בשבילנו מחדש אלף עקז' בתיקונים האפשריים שכתב וכל הישנים ימכרם באיזורים.

ז) ס' המאמרים ס' השיחות ופוקח עורים שהודיע שכבר נדפסו - יקחם. ישלח לכאן, לע"ע, ובהקדם, רק עשר עקז' מכאו"א והשאר ימכרם באיזורים או בפאריז.

ומחירם סהמ"א או סה"ש ששים סענט (בפאריז עה) כל אחד. פוקח עורים - טו (בפ. כ).

ויוכל ליתן מזה שכר טרחא למוכרים או לקונים הרבה עד שלשים אחוז.

ח) שמעתי שהדפיסו עוד איזה שיחות, ומכרום כבר (ובריוח). ומטובו לשלוח לנו ד-ה עקז' בשביל הביבליותיקה שלנו. ואולי כדאי שיתקשרו עם אלו שהתעסקו בהנ"ל ע"ד מכירת והפצת הנדפס על ידו כיון שכנראה בקיאים הם בזה. ואל בינתו אשען.

ט) כמדומה שכבר כתבתי שידפיס ג"כ תו"א לקו"ת וגם הפס"ד להצ"צ, כ"א - וכן גם ש' האמונה וש' היחוד ת"ק עקז'. ויודיעני אם ישנם אצלו ומאיזה דפוס. ואם אפשר כמה לערך יעלה ההוצאות לכאו"א.

יו"ד) החוברת לתניא עדיין לא הו"ל מפני הטרדות. משאר שהו"ל אשלח כבקשתו ויודיע כמה ארך ההילוך בדרך. ויאשר קבלת מכ' המוסג"פ.
