To the young Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessing,
A) I received your letter of 9 Sivan. I thank you for the good news that you announce to me, concerning the Yeshivah*. I thank you for the past, and I ask you to continue to do the same in the future.
May Hashem accord you success.
B) You ask me whether the direction of the Yeshivah* must systematically adopt an attitude of firmness toward the students and their parents. One cannot enunciate general principles in this domain, for it is clear that each situation must be envisaged in a specific manner.
If it is a question of a fundamental principle, one cannot make a concession. One must, nevertheless, adopt an agreeable and friendly attitude. Thus, it is easier to obtain what one desires. It is useless to specify that the interest of one person is to be set aside since it risks causing harm to the greatest number (a student who does not profit from the teaching must be kept uniquely if he does not disturb the others).
The experience, in the other places, has made the proof that a concertation between the members of the direction permits, in most cases, to find the terms that befit to explain, to the parents and to the students, the importance of an Injunction or of a personal instruction, enunciated for the good of the collectivity and of the individual.

ב) בהנוגע לשאלתו אם הנהלת הישיבה תלך בתוקף בכל דבר עם התלמידים וההורים שלהם. הנה אין שייך לתת בזה הוראות כלליות כי מובן שהדבר תלוי בהפרט עליו נדונים, שאם הוא ענין עיקרי אין לוותר עליו אבל גם אז צריך ללכת בזה בדרכי נועם ובדרכי שלום שאז בנקל יותר צו אויספירען, ולמותר להוסיף שבמקום שיש חשש דהיזק הרבים הרי זה מבטל סברת תועלת היחיד, וכפי שהראה הנסיון במקומות אחרים הנה כשחברי ההנהלה דמוסד חינוך מתייעצים ביניהם הרי ברובא דרובא מוצאים האותיות המתאימות איך להסביר לההורים והתלמידים נחיצות ציווי או פקודה פרטית איך שזהו תועלת הכלל ותועלת הפרט...
