Igrot Kodesh · Letter 274 — Maharash Biography, Name Shmu'el, and Reward in the World to Come

By the grace of Hashem, 27 Tammuz* 5707, To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav Shmu'el the shochet*[1], I greet and bless you,
I have the pleasure of informing you that the biography of the Rebbe Maharash*, the book whose printing you undertook to finance, has been published.
Merit is added on a date that is in itself auspicious, and this book was therefore delivered on 12 Tammuz*, the day of my father-in-law's liberation, the Rebbe Shlita*, twenty years ago. I delivered it that same day to my father-in-law, the Rebbe.
It is stated in this book, on page 71, that the Alter Rebbe* gives the name Shmu'el the following interpretation: 'His Name is Hashem.' You should also consult the Shnei Luchot HaBrit* and the Chida*, which appear in the Vilna edition of the Zohar*, with some modifications.
One may also mention, in this connection, the explanation of the one principally concerned, namely the Rebbe Maharash*. Commenting on the statement of our Sages that Yaakov received Hashem's Name, he explains that Yaakov perceived at that moment the World to Come, when Hashem will reveal three hundred and ten worlds, whose tithe[2] is the numerical value of Hashem's Name, El*.
That is why the Rebbe Maharash* was materially wealthy, even though ordinarily, when a Tzaddik* desires tranquility in this world, he is subject to an accusation by the Satan*, who reminds him that he may only claim it in the World to Come. It is in this sense, moreover, that the Patriarchs perceived the World to Come.
For someone like you, it is surely unnecessary to describe the great merit of disseminating such a book. I will only emphasize that, by an act of divine Providence, it was completed on the anniversary of the deliverance and birth of my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita*, when the celestial influence is favorable to him.
May Hashem bring about the fulfillment of the blessings that my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita*, granted you, orally when you were here, or in writing.

בשמחה הנני להודיעו, אשר יצא כבר מבית הכורך ספר תולדות אדמו"ר מהר"ש נ"ע, הוא הספר אשר כבו' לקח ע"ע הוצאות הדפסתו.

ומגלגלין זכות ליום זכאי, אשר הביאו הספר ביום י"ב תמוז, הוא חג גאולת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א, ביום מלאת עשרים שנה לשחרורו. ובו ביום הכנסתיו אל כ"ק מו"ח אד"ש.

מובא בס' הנ"ל (ע' 71)15 שאדמו"ר הזקן אמר ששמואל היינו שמו-קל (עיין של"ה ר"פ תולדות והגהות החיד"א לזח"ב קמח, ב' נדפסו בזהר ווילנא באו"א קצת).

ואולי י"ל הביאור עפמ"ש בעל השם הזה עצמו, הוא אדמו"ר מהר"ש נ"ע (בהמשך וככה תרל"ז ס"י) על מרז"ל הקב"ה קראו ליעקב א-ל שהיינו מה שהטעימו מעין עוה"ב, אשר לעת"ל מנחיל ש"י עולמות ומעין זה "מעשר מזה" הוא א-ל. (וי"ל שזהו מה שאדמו"ר מהר"ש נ"ע הי' עשיר גם בגשמיות אף שבכלל כשצדיקים מבקשים ליישב בשלוה בעוה"ז השטן מקטרג שמתוקן להם עוה " ב , ב"ר ר"פ פד, שזהו ג"כ פי' הפשוט של הטעימן מעין עוה"ב ב"ב ספ"ק).

גודל זכות פרסום ספר הנ"ל בודאי אין צריך באור למר ולדכוותי'. ורק אדגיש מה שהזדמן - בהשגחה פרטית - שנגמר ביום הגאולה ויום הולדת (שאז מזלו שולט. ירוש' ר"ה פ"ג ה"ח) של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א.

ויה"ר שיקויימו בו ברכותיו של כ"ק מו"ח אד"ש מה שקבל ממנו בעת היותו פה פא"פ או בכתב.
