Greetings and blessing,
I learned, with fright, in your last letter, that your wife thinks to travel in an Israeli boat, of which the entire crew is Jewish and which travels also during Shabbos. It is the reason for which, upon receipt of your mail, I addressed to you the following telegram:
"I am surprised by the project of taking an Israeli boat that travels during Shabbos. Doubtless you will rectify all that. With my blessing. My signature."
I do not know exactly what occurs in these boats. Nevertheless, I see no means of permitting their use. I am even surprised that one can envisage that it be otherwise. Perhaps you will be able to repair all that while there is still time.
If this is not the case, chas veshalom*, one must ask oneself how to repair what occurred — in the present case, a fault linked to the holiness of Shabbos and to the holiness of the Name of Hashem (such a voyage contributes to profaning the Name of Hashem).
May Hashem accord you the merit to announce to me good news on this subject.

... נבהלתי לקרות במכתבו האחרון אשר יש אצלו סברא שתסע זוגתו תחי' באני' ישראלית ושכל המלחים הם בני ישראל וכו' הנוסעת בים ביום הש"ק, ולכן שלחתי לו מברק בקבלת מכתבו, וז"ל: תמיהני להסברא לנסוע באני' ישראלית הנוסעת בשבת קדש, ובודאי יתקן, בברכה: חתימתי.
אינני יודע פרטי ההנהגה בספינות כאלו, אבל לאידך גיסא אינני רואה מקום להיתר, ועד כדי כך שגם על הקס"ד בזה תמה אני. ואולי יעלה בידו לתקן הדבר בעוד מועד, כי בא"ל ח"ו צריך להתייעץ על דבר תיקון בענין כזה הקשור בקדושת השבת וקדושת השם. והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב בזה...
