To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessing,

I would like to repeat to you a second and even a third time what I have already told you.

It is indispensable to enlarge the Yeshivah* (of Melbourne), quantitatively and qualitatively, in all the measure of the possible. It is said that "HaKadosh Baruch Hu* does not act in a tricky manner with His creatures." It is therefore certain that you have the means for this. Nevertheless, "the result is in proportion to the effort" (literally, "the mark on the back of the camel is a function of the weight of the burden"), and "one who tells you that he made no effort and nevertheless attained success — do not believe him."

It is therefore necessary to suppress all the veils, obscuring the acts of the service of Hashem, whatever they be, in particular when they concern the education of the children, and especially in a country where this is only at its beginning. Now, you express the greatest regrets that, for some months, you are only a few to consecrate yourselves to all that. Concerning the building, you have observed considerable success. You have seen people adopt the most positive attitude, in a totally unhoped-for manner. Despite that, you still formulate such remarks!

You tell me that there is not, with you, a great erudite of Torah mastering the language of the country. The manner of acting of Chabad in the diverse countries contradicts all your arguments. And, in fact, what good to formulate them, when it is well evident that a Yeshivah* Lubavitch must exist in Australia? For, if it were not the case, if no profit, material or spiritual, were envisageable, Hashem would not have led you to this country.

It seems to me that I have already reported to you once the proverb of the Raza"h (Rabbi Zalman Aharon, brother of the Rebbe Rashab), according to which "a Litvak only believes what he counts." Can one, by contrast, persist in not believing, even after having counted?

You tell me that there will be, in the Yeshivah*, a library comprising works of the revealed part of Torah and of Chassidus*. This is a good initiative. It seems to me that you already possess all the books published by Kehot editions. If you address us a list of the works already in your possession, we will be able to complete what is missing.

With my blessing of success in all that has just been said and in the expectation of your good news,

... ועוד הפעם אכפול ואשלש מה שכתבתי כ"פ שמוכרח הדבר שיגדילו את הישיבה ככל האפשרי הן בכמות והן באיכות, ואין הקב"ה בא בטרוניא עם בריותיו ובודאי שהנ"ל ביכולתם הוא אלא שלא יגעת - לפום גמלא - ומצאת אל תאמין, ולהסיר ענין העלמות והסתרים על כל עבודה איזה שתהי' ובפרט בעבודה בשדה החינוך הכשר ובמדינה שזהו בגדר התחלה, ובכ"ז מצטער הוא במאד מאד שזה כמה חדשים שהם היחידים הפועלים בזה כי... ראו הצלחה מופלגה במוחש בענין הבנין ובהיחס הטוב מצד כמה אנשים שמתחלה לא קוו על זה, ובכ"ז עדיין חושבים חשבונות כו' וכו',

וכל [ה]הסברים שכותבים שאין אצלם למדן גדול במאד יודע שפת המדינה כו', הנה המציאות בעבודת חב"ד במדינות שונות מכחשת את כל תירוצים אלו. ובכלל מה התועלת מהתירוצים שברור הדבר שצריכה להיות ישיבה תו"ת בפועל ממש גם באוסטראליא, וההוכחה היותר גדולה על זה הוא כי לולא ענין זה אינו מובן כלל וכלל למה הביאם השי"ת לשם, אי אין נראה לא ריוח גשמי ולא ריוח רוחני. וכמדומה שכבר כתבתי להם פעם פתגם הרז"א נ"ע שאמר, אז א ליטוואק גלויבט ניט ביז ער ציילט ניט איבער, אבל לא להאמין גם לאחר שסופר...

מ"ש שבהישיבה יהיו אוצר ספרים של נגלה וחסידות, נכון הדבר, וכמדומה שכבר נמצא אצלם ספרי' מספרי הוצאת קה"ת... וכשישלח רשימת הספרים הנמצאים כבר הנה ישלימו להם את החסר.
