To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs,

Mr. A. Shklovski,

Greetings and blessing,

I received in its time your letter, which was not dated. You describe to me the situation of the Chabad shul of Petach Tikvah. I was satisfied to obtain these complementary news and to know that this situation improves. I hope that it will go better and better.

Quite obviously, Hashem demands that everything be accomplished by taking the ways of nature. When it is a question of a shul and beis midrash*, all therefore depends on its officials. Thus, if one acts, one is certain to obtain Hashem's blessing, in conformity with His promise, according to which "Hashem your Elokim will bless you in all that you do."

How much more is this so when it is a question of the public good, and especially of a Chabad shul. Indeed, our holy masters gave of themselves for the chassidim*. They desired that the Chabad shuls develop and that they grow, that they be, in conformity with the expression of our Sages, "miniature sanctuaries," from which emanate the light and the ardor, spreading themselves into the homes of those who frequent them.

One who has been designated by Heaven to be the official of such a shul possesses a great merit. Indeed, he can thus put into practice the will of our holy masters in all the domains that have just been mentioned. I hope to receive from your part good news on this subject.

The Midrash explains that the six hundred thousand children of Yisrael all had to be present when the Torah was given. If a single one of them had been missing, his absence would have made obstacle to this revelation. In these days preceding the giving of the Torah, you must therefore make all the efforts necessary to draw close to Torah and mitzvos* whoever can be.

It is thus that one can receive at once the Torah and the One Who gives it. And our Sages emphasize, at tractate Shabbos 105a, that the first word of the Ten Commandments, Anochi ("I"), is constituted of the initials of the phrase signifying: "Ana Nafshi Kesavis Yehavis" ("I have inscribed the Essence of Myself and I have given It"). You will consult, on this subject, chapter 47 of the Tanya*.

With my blessing, in the formulation of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, that you receive the Torah in a joyous and profound manner, yourself and all those who frequent the Chabad shul, in the expectation of your good news,

נושא ,יש לו משמעות פנימית גדולה והשפעה.

זקניכם ואבותיהם מסרו נפשם כדי לרומם ולייקר את השם החסידי

שנשאו באחריות ובגאון .גם אתם ,ילדיהם ונכדיהם ,ודאי תדעו כיצד

להעריך את האחריות הגדולה המוטלת עליכם ,לשמור ולהנציח מסורת

אבות וירושה הגדולות שהם השאירו בידיכם.

מחודשת; חזקו את יסודות בית הכנסת שלכם ,הן בכמות -להגדיל את

מספר החברים והמתפללים ,במיוחד בין הנוער; הן ברוחניות --ע״י

שיעורים בלימוד תורה וחסידות :חומש ,משניות ,גמרא ,עין יעקב ,שלחן

ערוך ,תניא ,מאמרים וכר ,והתוועדות חסידית מזמן לזמן ,כך שבית

הכנסת שלכם יהי׳ חי ,חמים ומואר.

בטח לא תחמיצו את הזמן הטוב והמתאים של הימים הקדושים

הבאים ,ליצור תחי׳ ]מחודשת[ בבית הכנסת שלכם בדברים האמורים לעיל.

תקותי שתקראו ,אם נחוץ ,אסיפה מיוחדת כדי לבצע זאת בפועל ממש,

והקב״ה בטח יצליחכם .ישמח אותי לשמוע בשורות טובות בזה .ועל פי
