To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs,
Rav Menachem Ze'ev HaLevi (Rav M. Z. Gringlass, of Montreal),
Greetings and blessing,
I reply to your letter of 23 Iyar, in which you evoke the authorization (to attend the Chassidic gatherings of the Rebbe in New York) requested by the students (of the Yeshivah* Lubavitch of Montreal).
As your letter indicates, it is good to accord this authorization. Nevertheless, one must ask of them in exchange, and obtain from their part, an addition to the three pillars on which the world rests (Torah study, prayer, and good deeds). The time is short, and this addition will therefore be introduced even before their voyage, but it can be completed afterward.
I rely on your judgment to organize all this in the manner that suits best.
You have surely received my letter.
I proposed that during Shavuos one study the Chassidic discourse of 5704 (1944, by the previous Rebbe). Kindly diffuse this information. I thank you for it.
With my blessing for success in your sacred mission and so that you may soon give good news, including of your personal preoccupations,

במענה על מכתבו מכ"ג אייר, בו שואל אודות נתינת רשות לתלמידים כו'.
הנה כנראה ממכתבו כדאי לתת רשות אלא שיש לקבוע וכן לקבל מהנ"ל נגד זה תוספת בענינים דשלשת העמודים שעליהם העולם עומד, ומפני קוצר הזמן הנה התחלה בהתוספת תהי' קודם הנסיעה לכאן וסיומם אפשר גם לאחרי זה, ואל בינתו אשען לסדר הנ"ל באופן המתאים.
