To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessing,

A) I received your letters of 20 and 27 Iyar. I also received the Sefer Torah (offered by the community of Casablanca). Kindly specify to me whether it is necessary to write a letter of thanks on this subject. It seems to me that you had evoked this subject in one of your previous letters. In any case, this project comes to fruition now, and you will therefore tell me, once again and in a detailed manner, what it is.

You will specify who is the person or who are the persons to whom one must write, and what title is fitting to accord them. Is it a question of a community official or of a Rav? Can this letter contain also words of Torah? If applicable, must they be simple or can they be more profound?

B) Some desire that the young girls pursue their studies at Beis Rivkah of Paris (in Yerres, the Paris region). One must therefore clarify the situation, from the point of view of the teachers as well as that of the students. Are the candidates sufficiently disciplined?

It is clear that supervision at Beis Rivkah is not as efficient as at the Yeshivah* Lubavitch. Conversely, the responsibility that one takes for what concerns young girls is more important than that which concerns young men.

In any case, all this presents an interest only if there is a reason for which a young girl must go to France, because she cannot receive a good education in the place where she finds herself currently. Thus, if it is a question of girls up to twelve years old, I do not see why they should go to France.

Concerning the teachers, I meant to say that one must know what is the situation of Beis Rivkah in France, describe the nature and the expectations of these students, the supervision of which they have need. One must verify that this institution can satisfy these expectations. Before taking a final decision, you will surely communicate to me the pros and the cons.

C) You express the desire of your heart, that we may see one another, in a propitious moment. It is a good initiative. Nevertheless, one must, above all, assure oneself that two conditions are united:

1. Your wife must express her full agreement, without constraint.

2. The accomplishments in Morocco must not suffer from it.

This second condition necessarily limits the time (the moment of this visit) to a few precise dates. You will tell me which.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מכ' וכ"ז אייר. כן נתקבלה הס"ת. ובטח יודיע אם צריך לכתוב מכתב תודה בזה. וכמדומה שהזכיר עד"ז באחד ממכתביו הקודמים, ובכ"ז כיון שעתה נוגע לפועל - הנה יודיע עוד הפעם בפרטיות , היינו מהותה איש או האנשים שצריך לכתוב עליהם, בהצעת תואר המתאים, היינו אם הוא עסקן צבורי או רב וכו', וכן אם יש מקום במכתב זה ג"כ לאיזה דבר תורה, ואם בפרטות או גם ענין הדורש הבנה יותר וכו'.

ב) בהנוגע למה שיש רוצים לשלוח נערות ללמוד בבית רבקה אשר בפאריז. הנה צריך לברר המצב - הן אודות המשפיע הן אודות המקבל: אם המועמדות הן בעלי משמעת וכו' וכו'. מובן אשר ההשגחה בבית רבקה בפאריז אינה במילואה כ"כ כמו בהישיבה דתו"ת, ולאידך גיסא - בהנוגע נערות גדולה יותר האחריות מאשר בנוגע לבחורים. ובכל אופן זהו מענין - כשיש תועלת בנסיעה לצרפת דוקא, כי אי אפשר להמציא בשבילה חינוך המתאים במקומה עתה. ולכן בנערה כבת י"ב או פחות מזה, אינו רואה הנחיצות שצריכה ללמוד דוקא בצרפת. ובהנוגע להמשפיע - כוונתי - שצריך לדעת המצב בבי"ר בצרפת ולתאר לפניהם מהות ודרישת התלמידות ואופן השגחה שהם זקוקים לזה, ולשאלם אם ביכולתם לסדר את כל הדרוש, ובטח קודם ההחלטה - יודע גם לכאן מהשקו"ט בזה.

ג) בהנוגע למשאלות לבבו לטובה להתראות באחד מזמנים המתאימים - הנה בכלל נכון הוא. ומובן שלכל לראש צריך להיות בטוח בשתי נקודות: א) שיהי' זה בהסכמתה המלאה - ומבלי כפי' - מצד זוגתו תחי'. ב) שלא יסבלו מזה הענינים במרוקה, אשר מפני נקודה הב' בודאי מוגבל הזמן דוקא לזמנים מיוחדים, ויודיע איזה הם.
