Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter, in which you describe your situation to me. You ask me whether you should pursue your studies at the Yeshivah* Lubavitch of Lod or at the professional school. You are fourteen and a half years old.

In a general manner, in order to know success in one's studies, one must submit oneself and obey. Thus, our Sages relate that the children of Yisrael could obtain the Torah precisely because they said: "We shall do, and (afterward) we shall understand." It must therefore be so for each one, whatever studies one undertakes.

You will therefore pursue your studies at the Yeshivah* Lubavitch of Lod, with enthusiasm and ardor. Our Sages say that "one who makes efforts sees them crowned with success," and you will therefore know success in your study of the revealed part of the Torah and of Chassidus*, in the practice of the mitzvos*, in the best fashion.

With time, you will see that you can resist your yetzer hara* and study the Torah of Hashem. It is then that you will be able to think of attending the professional school. You will not do so before showing yourself and showing all that your brain dominates your heart, in all that has just been said.

Doubtless you read, every day, after the morning prayer, Tehillim* according to their monthly division. And, from time to time, you give a coin for tzedakah*.

Hashem will accord you success.

במענה על מכתבו, בו מתאר מצבו ושואל חוות דעתי אם ילמוד בישיבת תומכי תמימים בלוד או בבית ספר למלאכה והוא כבן ארבע עשרה וחצי שנה.

הנה בכלל כדי להצליח בלימוד צריך להיות הענין דקבלת עול ומשמעת וכסיפור רז"ל שדוקא עי"ז שישראל הקדימו נעשה לנשמע זכו לקבלת התורה שמזה לומדים אנו לסדר קבלת לימוד איזה שיהי'. ולכן ילמוד בישיבת תומכי תמימים בלוד במסירה ונתינה בשקידה ובהתמדה ואז בודאי יצליח וכפסק רז"ל יגעת ומצאת הן בלימוד תורת הנגלה והן בלימוד תורת החסידות וקיום המצות בהידור ובמשך הזמן כשיראה שיכול להתגבר על יצרו בלימוד תורת ה' הרי יוכלו לחשוב גם ע"ד סידורו בבי"ס למלאכה, אבל לא קודם שיראה עצמו וגם יראה לאחרים שהמוח שליט על הלב בהנ"ל.

בטח אומר בכל יום אחר תפלת שחרית השיעור תהלים כפי שנחלק התהלים לימי החדש ומזמן לזמן פרוטה לצדקה והשי"ת יצליחו.
