Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter (this term, in the masculine singular, refers to the husband of the couple addressed in this letter) of 9 Iyar. You know the teaching of the Baal Shem Tov, which is at the foundation of our holy Torah, according to which everything that happens in the world is an effect of the divine Providence, accorded to each Yid*, not only in a global manner, but also in each detail and in the most precise manner, for everything that concerns daily existence. In consequence, the verse says, referring to each one: "Hashem is with me. I shall not fear."

Sometimes, one forgets that this is so, but there is here only an intervention of the yetzer hara*, wishing to separate Yisrael from our Father Who is in Heaven, by senseless arguments, in conformity with the teaching that our Sages give on this subject (tractate Sotah indeed says: "A man can commit a sin only insofar as a spirit of folly seizes him"). Indeed, it is true, as we were emphasizing, that each Jew and each Jewess are children of our Father Who is in Heaven. Now, a father cannot separate from his son or his daughter.

It results from what has just been said that there is in no way reason to fear, chas veshalom*, for "Hashem is your shadow, at your right hand." He observes and protects each one of us. I hope that these few lines will suffice to strengthen you (the Rebbe employs the plural here and addresses both husband and wife) in your bitachon* in Hashem, daily. You will thus be able to lead your activity with assurance and joy.

May Hashem grant that your pregnancy proceed well (the Rebbe addresses the wife here), that you give birth easily to a healthy child, at the right moment and in the manner that is fitting.

P.S.: It would be good to have the mezuzos* of your house verified. It seems that it is necessary to change them. Likewise, you will have your tefillin* verified.

במענה על מכתבו מט' אייר, הנה ידוע תורת הבעש"ט שהוא יסוד תורתנו הק' אשר כל הענינים שבעולם הם בהשגחה פרטית ממנו ית' אשר הוא המשגיח על כל אחד מבני ישראל לא רק בכללות אלא גם בכל הפרטים ופרטי פרטים שבחיי היום יומים ובמילא על כל אחד אומר הכתוב, ד' לי לא אירא, ואף שלפעמים מסיחים דעת מזה הרי אין זה אלא עצת היצר שרוצה להפחיד ח"ו את ישראל מאבינו שבשמים ע"י טענות של שטות וכמרז"ל בזה. כי הרי האמת הוא כנ"ל אשר כל אחד ואחת מישראל בנים הם לאבינו שבשמים ואי אפשר להפריד בין אב לבן ובת. היוצא מזה שאין כל מקום לפחד ח"ו כלל כיון שה' צלך על יד ימינך והוא ית' שומר ומשגיח על כל אחד ואחד מאתנו. ותקותי ששורותי אלה המעטים בכמות יספיקו שיהיו חזקים בבטחונם בהשי"ת בחיי היום יומים ובבטחה ובשמחה יתעסקו בעניניהם.

והשי"ת ימלא ימי הריונה כשורה ובנקל ותלד זחו"ק בעתה ובזמנה כשורה ובקל.
